Benefits from I Saving Habit I Saving money systematically has a two-fold reward?it develops character and builds up capital?a which can be turned to good use. I Loan & Savings Bank | CAPITAL $100,000.00 | Nobody's Business Written for The Chronicle by Goo .McGee, Copyright, l'.tL'h. Kadio-Kitix The radio is indeed a v. nderful invention. It would have been a more wonderful invention if nature had not come along and invented static. Static is what you have t > endure in order to enjoy the radio. When mother sings some sweeL song if 1 uti effort to put the baby t<> sleep and the baby cries like the very dickens, Unit's representee of the radio,?mu| sic and static combined. ! There are more different kinds ot noises in a radio than there are democrats on the Mast Side. Who.) static is at its very best, our radio sounds like ^ pea-thresher being fed on wire nail-, and a monkey wrench tunning thru a corn-sbeller, and a , saw-mill cutting knots, and., a few cats, and several fellows trying to whistle three sheets in the wind. So met i in - I ffel o mad I decide to kick the denied thing in the stum1 rnick and go to bed, hut my wife is always around. i 1 wish somebody would invent a radii/ that would spit in the guy's face who is forever fumbling and meddling with the dials after he's getting a good station perfectly. Only one "tuner-in" out of 1000 is satisi tied with the manner the stuff is coming in, and all the balance of the i hunch is forever twisting the tails ' of the volume and sensitivity wheels, j and consequently nobody gets to hear I much of anything, and mostly nothing | of everything. I like the radio fine. It has many things of merit about it. It will ,, keep a man up so late at night that 1 i he will have to sleep late the next ; morning, and what's finer than sleeping late in the morning? And another thing, all sermons are free. No collection plates, nobody crowding you out of your pew, and no weary, worn, pious faces to gaze unon. It is always a remarkable thing to me t-> note how solemn and howsad old women can look while at ' church. It's a wonder that nearly all of them don't die of sadness and ' sorrow befoic the sermon is huh' over. ... ., And the radio furnishes another National sport?that of meeting the I instalments on the nose on the first j day of each month. It is indeed a j great pleasure to pay for a thing j when you have the money, hut when j you aint got it?children, dogs, cats. , and other folks had better stay out of ' the way. Money is a great thing I when you can't get. it. The republi cans promise continued prosperity (?) after Hoover is elected, and that means that mebbe the 14,000,000 people in the United States who are out of employment will get a job and make some money of their own so's Tri' :o radio instalments can be met. Ihi^ concludes our program from staiinn B-U-N-K, good nigltt. ? Where Do You (jo In? The present-day architecture is I getting my goat. The houses we live ; !n no longer look iike houses. It'a disgrace now to have a piizzer. The chimney is in the front yard., Th. : dining-room is in the parlor. Th? bed-room is up stairs. The kitchen! is built in back wards. The living room is bigger than the rest of th residence, and nobody ever lives it it. 1 he breakfast room is about th< , size of your list. The bath-tub )V " I feet long.- And the front steps aYe . at the back and the hack dood"~is at I the front. Wonder what's comi-g I next? I ? ??I nil Lights Have Been Suggested ! 1 have lots and lots of b'fcd hi. I no other- evening i was hoppi- g ! mround ;i a swimming poo!, a d nr.ving a good t me generally. Imagine my surprize when this barrel turned out to be old Mrs. Simkins who was doing the back^swim. She cussed me from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico and return. Women ought to quit dressing and looking so much like barrels, especially when they are both in the same pond. Let Me Have a Hair of Bi-Focals Dresses are getting shorter and shorter and stockings are getting longer and longer. Skirts look more like lamp-shades than anything else. It is a breach of etiquette and shows ill-hrceding for any woman to wear a garment that can't be seen thru and thru without eye strain, Bobs, bed hair is leaving and the majority of females now look like they are just returning from typhoid fever. Lip-sticks are disappearing and freckles are returning. It wont bo long now before our girls will be looking like human beings"~(un.irc>s~ ed) and soda water can be bought for a nickel. And Then He Said? We have been reliably informed that all of the prohibition agents In Florida are stone blind and are also minus smellers. It's the rarest thing open saloons in that country are raided^ Oh, _ well; since, the "blinder boys" left Florida, something.had to be substituted. A man can get so drunk even now that he will apprei date a corner lot or a water-front ' a What Next? A Papis fashion magazine says that bustles will be worn next season. Now, boys?wouldn't a bustle look cute holding up one of those presentday model drckses? Why," the poo* little dress would poke right straight out behind, and a woman wearing the aforesaid contraption would hafter walk backwards all the time to keep from being utterly disgraced from the rear. ;' y: A . .Z.j "Here Comes Arabella" Don't fiend Over The WASH TUB!
