The school principal-says the boy seemed depressed, but nobody knows what his trouble seemed to be. He is the only son of an ice man critically sick with pneumonia and leaves his parents and one sister. Y., Oct. 24.?More than six dozen base balls were "lost" here in an exhibition game in which Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig home run sluggers of the New York Yanks, played. The game was called before the ninth, because no wore balls were available. Any ball that was fouled* or was knocked anywhere on the field was immediately pounced upon by scrambling ydungsters. The Babe hit three homers. Gehrig doubled and tripled. The score was not kept. Eight thousand fans saw the game, which was for the benefit of the Elk's shoe fund. (Henry Mix was arrested this week in New Orleans at the request of South "Carolina officers, who charge him with the murder of James Mauldin, whose body was found cut up on a railroad track. The police believe that Mauldin was either killed and his body placed on the track, or that he was shoved between the rails in front of an approaching train. <, A. J. 'H&had declared repeatedly he was innocent of the crime and his wife and five .children, and the other Kaser families of Osborne County had remained loyal to him. His bond of $60,000 was signed, by. the father and Ms brother-in-law, both prosperous farmers.
