Friday, FVb. 10, 192s The Show Off On Monday evening the resident* and winter colony of Camden were delighted to have the opportunity of seeing (Jeufge Kelly's "The Show(){(," not only because this was the first of Kelly's plays to disclose definite promise and assurance of unusual gifts but also because it was a Columbia Stuge Society Production and given under the auspices of the Junior Welfare Workers of < am den. The comedy of Aubrey I'iper with! its pungent and racy truth was well east by the directoi, William l>can; the performunee lacked the polish of a play that was advertised as being comparable to the New York production. The audience was delighted with ; the splendid characterization of j Miss Ada Tayl (iruham a* Mr- ; Fisher. Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. j Stoney as Clara and Amy. the si-tci in tin- play, were well i out ra-tedtypes. Mrs. Mary Ann Chambers, perhaps the widest and best beloved citizen of Columbia, died Sunday morning at her home 1331 Laurel Street. She had reached the great age of ore hundred years. She was born in Lexington county near Columbia. Neighbor** Paper A few day# hgo the editor remarked to a citizen that he ought to take hi# home paper, The Enterprise. "I read your paper every week," said the man. We krtaw it, but wa# surprised at hi# frankness in admitting that he wa# "beating" on his neighbor for the home paper. We knew, al?o, that the man in question was amply able to take a hundred paper* if he wanted that many, and pay for them and never feel the expense, while those he was depriving of their Pltper were onl) in moderate cireumstance*. Neither can succeed without co-operation. Just recently some zealous official while looking through the statute book discovered that an ancient ordinance forbids restaurants to remain open during church hours. So this is now the law in Summerton. Tourists traveling on thq Lafayette highway, will soon learn to dine on Sunday either bofore or after they reach the place.
