She had been a life long resident of thin place. Surviving her is one daughter, Mrs. Hnttio Mooneyhnn, and two sons W. K. Hill of this place and C. V. Hill of Winston-Salem, N. C., besides a number of grandchildren. She was the widow of the late John Hill who preceded her to the grave years ago, as did also one son J. K. Hill. - The funeral services were held at Kt. The Men of the Church have their February meeting, Tuesday evening the 14th at eight o'clock. 11H attended our Sunday School last Sunday. This is encouraging but we want to see this 1 1H grow. Miss Mary Thompson has prepared an attendance chart to indicate week by week the life and interest of our school. If we all do our part this line will keep going up until we reach our 200 by the last of the year. On February 10 and 17 there will be held in our sunday school a Sunday School Institute fur the Presbyterian sunday school workers in the vicinity of Camden. All who heard these Spirituals sung t year will certainly want to heat mm again and those who did not hear them, have a treat In store. T* - Society is composed of member >f prominent Charleston families, who have at sometime lived on the "Id plantation* along the coast ami have learned these Honga direct from the plantation negroes. All who have read DuBose Heyward's Porgy and perhaps seen or heard of its dramatization on the New York stage, will be interested to know that the spirituals sung in the play ure these unwritten spirituals, and were gotten from the Society, Mr. Hey ward being a former member, himself. The new spirituals udded to the Society's repertoire, seven in number, include: "ChuYh, I 'no yoh gwine tub miss me wen 1 gone", "What dat sinner man gwine do dat day." "Sinner, wat yuh doin' down dey," "Keep a 'runnin', " "Yuh can' hide wen de worl on fire" and "Mebe yuh in de han* of a kin' Sabeyuh." A woman anu live cnildren wero bitten by a mad dog in Gwaltney township, near Taylorsville, N. and were given t^e Pasteur treatment when the state laboratories reported the dog's brain to show it had rabies. The first of this week travel was suspended on 'the new highway between the top of the Blue Ridge and Old Fort, N. C., on account of ice on the road.. More than thirty automobiles were stranded at Point Lookout, three miles from the top of the mountain. Busses between Charlotte and Asheville had to quit until the ice thawed off the road. By the federal census recently completed, Charlotte has a population of 80,690 and that city allows WinstonSalem 74,045, making Charlotte the largest city in the two Carolinas. Clarence White, a Lawndale, N. C., boy, came to his death from exposure and drinking bad whisky, the coroner's jury decided. He was pulled from a stream near his home during the cold snap and died next morning. Mrs. C. E. Teeter, of Concord. N. C. took poison, but physicians pumped it out of her stomach. She is a graduate nurse with one child, and her attempt at suicide followed a quarrel at home. Thomas C. Scaffe. artist and Con, federate war veteran, died in Sumter ! ! la-t Monday afternoon aged 81 years. I He enlisted when 15 yeasr old and : served in the army four years. She was found thus by her sister, and efforts to revive her failed. She had been to a movie that evening before her suicide and left a note saving she wanted to die an I asking not to be revived. Baruch Leases I.and. Kingstree, Feb. 4.? Bernard M. Baruch has leased several thousand acres of land about ten nules out of Kingstree for a hunting ' preserve. C., and will report for training with the coming week. Buck man is an army-trained pilot, a member of Lindoergh'a class< at Kelly field, and is the holder of a brilliant flying record. He has frequently visited in this city where: many passengers have gone aloft with him to glimpse Camden and the surrounding countryside.
