Af1 if h week <-f entcrta.maenl in France, i in w nuh all k.nd of honors were heaped up-m him, he left 1'aris on Friday and two hours later landed at Brussels, where he was given additional honors and a reception by the people of Belgium that would be calculated to turn the head of one less evenly balanced than the young American flyer. He was received by the Belgian king and queen and royalty, decorated with the Order of Leopold, and among other things kept King Albert : waiting twenty minutes while he, I Lindbergh, hunted for a lost colla" , button, while dressing for a reception at the palace of the king. Flying over the American cemetery in Belgium, Captain Lindbergh dropped a wreath as a memorial to American, soldiers buried there. Saturday morni trig he had a secret engagement with i King Albert and Queen Elizabeth to show them his plane, the "Spirit of St. Louis," in which he made his historic flight, met the royal pair at the airj drome shed where his plane was I stored and then showed them the maj chine, explaining every detail of its I construction to their majesties, who i showed the keenest interest not only < in the machine, but in the details of , the flight across the Atlantic which ; the captain told minutely. * Saturday afternoon Captain Lind; bergh took off from -Jfrussels for I Croyden, England, after expressing his appreciation for the warm reception that he had received in both France and in Belgium, He left Brussels so promptly on his scheduled time, that none of the commercial j planes or the planes representing the ; army of Belgium detailed to escort him across the English channel, were ! ready when he started, i Arriving at Croyden, the scheduled - lauding place in England, the flyer was greeted by the largest crowd of people ever gathered at that histori * I place in all of its centuries of existence. The crowd was made up of men, women, boys, girls and babies to ' fhe number of 100,000 or more, and the flyer.had to make several circuits j of the field before he was able to effect a safe landing. When the machine finally settled to the earth the flyer was immediately surrounded by the wildly exciting throngs that ran over the field despite all efforts of the bobbies to keep some semblance of order,? and thereby smashing all the carefully laid plans for the official welcome of the flyer. As he hopped out of the pane he was immediately surrounded by the shrieking and struggling mobs and was rescued by the police only with the greatest difficulty. The great throng tried to carry the flying man away from the : machine, and werex prevented from doing this only by the strenuous ef- i forts of the police. He was finally rescued by the police when they got him into an automobile. . I The reception committee that was I to receive him in England, includeJ the American ambassador, Alanson B. Houghton, Sir Samuel Hoare, British.; aviation minister; Lady Hoare and other notables of British official and social life, but because of the wild crush that surrounded the flyer all reception plans were broken up for the time being. Lindbergh is being showered with j official invitations to visit practically j all the capitals of Europe, and is also receiving hundreds of propositions for his services from moving picture and ; theatrical concerns., none of which he ! has as yet considered. One California 1 moving picture magnate is said to j have cabled him an offer of $10,000 ' per day for a period of 365 days. M). Schumpert Dead I NewJ>*fry, May 21. -J.
