Sanders of this place, burned to aground yesterday about .'{ o'clock. Fire started in rear of second floor from unknown cause, believed to be from fireworks. Fire at Alexandria Alexandria, Va., Doc. 20. ? A fire which for a time threatened to spread to the navy's torpedo storage plant, did lew than $50,000 damage to two grocery concern warehouses today on the waterfront. The cause had not been determined tonight. Victim of Meningitis Green wood, Dec. 28.? Funeral .serv ice for Julian Tolbert, sophomore at Clemson who died in the college in firmary of .spinal meningitis Sunday night, December 20, after an illness of several days was conducted here Wednesday at 3 o'clock by his pantor, the Rev. J. A. Mac Lean, Jr., of the First " Presbyterian church. Cadet Tolbert had been ill since Tuesday supposedly from influenza. The fact that he was suffering from meningitis was not discovered until Sunday, ac cording to reports received by his family. I Peacemaker Seriously Wounded Darlington, Dec. 20. ? Paul Robin sort , a well known negro of the Me ehanic8ville section of the county, was .shot and seriously wounded at a Christmas party last night by an other negro, Whitlimore Thomas. Robinson was attempting to act as peacemaker in a fight at the party and his efforts to prevent a diffi culty led to his being .shot. Thomas has not yet been arrested. This is the only holiday row that has yet been reported to the authorities. Many Deaths in St. Louin St. Louis, Doc. 26. ? Tragedy stalk ing in the* wake of Christmas festiv ities gave the coroner's office here the busiest day in history today when 23 violent deaths in 21 hours almost one an hour, were reported. Seven of the 23 deaths were traffic fatal ities, a number resulted from burns and exposure and one from inhaling pras. A warning was sounded by Coroner Vitt against an even greater toll of fatalities New Year's eve. Besides the hotel two other building* gave fuel to. the flames which raged fdr four hours in the fact of the entire fire depart ment's most valient efforts. Wife Killer Die*. Orangeburg, Dec. 30.? Allen 3. Way, hold in connection with the kill in# of hi* wife last week, died this morning of pneumonia at the lOcal hospital where he was undergoing treatment for wounds self-inflicted at the time of his wife's death. Way made several unsuccessful at tempts to end his life, including a jump from the second floor of the hos pital yesterday. I ? Two Dead; Two Injured Ernest Coker and Carl Wiginton, who suffered fractured skulls in the automobile accident early Christmas morning that cost the lives of George McLaurin and Wrenny Floyd, both 18 year*, were reported better at the Baptist hospital yesterday. L. T. Campbell, who says that he was with the party up until a short time be fore the accident but was not in the car when the fatal smash came, was reported improved at the Columbia hospital, where he was taken early Christmas morning about two hours after the accident. The accident occurred about .1 o'clock last Friday morning at the intersection of Fast Gervais and the Garner's Ferry road.? Tuesday's State. Third Victim of Wreck Dead Death claimed a third victim of the automobile accident which ? occurred at the intersection of Garner's Ferry road and Gervais street Christinas morning about o'clock, when Krnest Coker, 18 years of age, passed at the Baptist hospital yesterday morning between 8:.'J0 and 8:45 o'clock. Young Coker had apparently rallied from his injuries Monday, but he took a turn for the worse early Tuesday'. Others dying from the accident, when the automobile in which they were riding smashed head-on into a tree, were George McLaurin, who died soon after being taken to th<- hos pitai following the accident and Wrenny Floyd who died about noon Sunday. Unusual facts connected with the accident- are that all three of the young men have died' from a frac ture of the frontal bone of the skull and all three were eighteen years of age. Carl Wiginton, a fourth member of the party, is in the hospital suf fering from a fractured skull. Re ports from the hospital late last night were that the young man was still in a serious condition but is appar ently some iK'tter. He is conscious. ? Wednesday's State. Bin Wounds Prove Fatal. Death, resulting from injuries re ceived in the accidental discharge of a small calibre rifle in the hands of a fellow playmate, came to Virtus O. Moseley Wednesday at the Camden hospital where he was taken for treatment following the shooting on Tuesday of last week. The young fellow was in his eleventh year and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Moseley who reside a short distance rast of Camden. Funeral arrange ments were in t h ?? hands of C. W. The living room was in holiday attire with all the brightness and emblems of the season in evidence, while a glowing fire lent its enchantment and warmth. About thirty young people called during the evening. After many frames the old fashioned square danco was enjoyed. She was taken to Columbia Monday where she underwent an op eration. Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Best and two sons spent the holidays with Mrs. Best's parents at McCormick. Mr. Ralph Tiller, of West Palm Beach, Fla., was the guest of relatives hero during the holidays. Dr. and Mrs. C. E. Brazwell have moved into the new bungalow recent ly erected by Rev. W. V. Jerman near the Presbyterian church. Mr. W. K. Davis is erecting a bun galow on upper Main street, which, when completed, will be occupied by Mr. Fulmer, night dispatcher at this place. Mifts Dorothy Parrott and sisters were week-end guests of their grand parents. Mr. and Mrs. Craig Best, in Hartsville.
