employed in public schools, school
trusters, and persons permanently
disabled in the military service of this
State and persons who served in the
War Between the States, and all per
sons actually employed in the quaran
tine servi<e of this state and all resi
dents who may be attending school
or college at the time when .said road
tax shall become due. Persons claim
ing disabilities must present certifi
cate from two reputable physicians of
this county.

MAN ADMITS CRIME
Double of Georgia Man Turns I p
and Confesses Robbery
Atlanta, (Ja., Feb. D.? Confession
to a crime for which one man is
serving a five-year sentence in the
Atlanta federal penitentiary by an
other who bears .surli a striking re
semblance to the prisoner that eight
persons could look at one and swear
that he was the other, wrote a re
markable chapter into the annals of
the Atlanta Postoffice Division to*
day.
And u* a result the prisoner, Hugh
Lee, charged with holding up and
robbing a Georgia postoffice, is fac
ing freedom, and his double, Will I!.
Barrett, who made the confession, is
held in the Fulton county tower.
Both men are the same size, both
have cross eyes, both have gold teeth,
both have moles on the cheek, and
the handwriting of both is'similar. ?
It was in August, 1923, that the
postoffice in Priors, (la., was entered
and Charles Kite, the postmaster,
held . up and robbed of a stack of
money, order blanks.
A short time later Hugh Lee was
arrested in Virginia and brought back
for iiia!. Light witnesses identified
him as the man who committed the
hold up. He was convicted and son
tenced to five years imprisonment.
Several days ago Barrett was taken
into custody in Nashville on a state
charge and there he told of the rob
bery.
Official action towards releasing
Lee will'be taken at once, I'ostoffiee

Along with numerous other publi
cations, Novelty News has now join
ed the campaign to correet the evil
arising from the peddling menace.
'Die following editorial by Frank H.
Waggoner, entitled, "Thoughtless
Town" appeared in its issue for Feb
ruary. It is well worth reading and
studying*
"Do you know it% story and where
it is? Have you ever lived there?
"It used tu be a splendid town,
with its broad, shaded streets and
well-kept homes, its stores that flank
ed Main street, its lumber yard and
its flour mill.
"Once on a time every tie-rail wars
filled. Then tho autos began to ap
pear until the horse-drawn vehicles
became as unusual a sight an the
alitor bad been at first.
"In those days the stores carried
all that the community required and
it was content. Then the lure of
the city came and with it the things
that make up its life, and Main street
paled in the glare of Broadway.
"Back from the city came the city's
merchandise, not to the stores, but
to tho homes of the residents, and
the town paid tribute to the city
with'the money that Was its mer
chants'.
"Into the town, hidden in the mad
bags and from all eyes save those
of the carriers, came catalogs from
distant houses, resplendent in color
and prodigal in size, spreading out j
on their printed pages the merchan
dise gathered from home and beyond j
the Seven Seas. And order blanks
as quietly went back pinned to .checks
en the home bank, and the town paid
tribute to the alien firms with the
money that was its merchants'.
"Unobtrusively, as one making a
friendly call, stranger folk, some with
and some without what might be
mistaken for suitcases or hand lug
gage, rang the door bells of the
homes and entered. They were, a^
they announced themselves, ambas
sadors and ministers plenipotentiary
from the court of the great manu
facturers, presenting their credentials
to those who had been selected as
worthy of the high honor?of being
privileged to buy direct and avoid
thr tribute to wholesaler and retailer
as well, and who were to enjoy the
advantage of making their selections
in the comfort and seclusion of the;r
own homes.
"And one of these strangers, be
ing the ambassador of a manufac
turer of shoes, took orders away from
?K ? local shoe stores, and the town
paid tribute to that alien manufac
turer' with- the money'that was its
m< rchants*. '
"And another, ambassador of a
manufacturer of clothing, took or
ders away from the local clothier.*,
