will join the Camden people in an
effort to have the whole affair in
vestigated and get at the real trouble.

Washington special of October 25
to the Columbia State: Cole L. "Mease,
Democratic nominee for the senate in
South Carolina, is declared by the
Association Against the Prohibition
Amendment, in a pre-election bulle
tin today, to be "unsatisfactory" to
that association. Representatives
Dominick, McSwain, Stevenson and
Fulmer, likewise are declared to be
unsatisfactory. Inasmuch as the con
gressmen-elect from the First and
Second districts have yet to make a
record in Washington, no reference to
them was made. According to the
bulletin, voters are urged to support
_Uui?national Democratic ticket inas
much, as it alleged, the Republican
organization is controlled by the
Anti-Saloon league. Inasmuch as Mr.
IIlease has not yet made his mark in
Washington, it caused surprise here
that he should have been proceeded
against inasmuch as others, as yet
unknown, were omitted.
Henry C. Wallace, secretary of
agriculture, died ? o'clock Satur
day afternon at the Naval hospital,
in Washington, of toxemia poisoning
which developed alter ;\n operation
pei formed laM wack in an effort to
relieve sciatica, ile was in his illly
ninth year. Death came pearefuTly
after long hotu> of unconsciousness,
and after medical m ience was unable
longer to check tin- ravages of the
poison. At . h;s bedside were Mrs.
Walla/v arid their daughter, Miss
R'lth. No other members <?i the fam
ily were in th city. Dr. .Joel T.
Roone. i ne of the white house physi
cians who had been in constant at
tendance since the secretary- was
taken to the hospital, issued the fol
lowing statement: 'H'he secretary
died at ?! o'clock, ile slept vers nuiet
ly. Mrs. Wallace and her daughter,
Ruth, were present. Immediate caiiu*
of death v. as bacteremia and the
contributory cause was cholecystitis,
inflammation of Hie gall bladder.

gist and banker of Winnsboro died at
' his home in that town Sunday and
was buried Monday. The school and
business" houses of the town were
closed in his honor during the hour of
the funeral.

i officer at the Charlotte speedway
; Saturday afternoon ami lodged in the
coupty jail on a charge of having
an unidentified woman's pocketbook
of mare than $r>00 worth of diamonds.

The theft is alleged to have occurred
in the main grandstand and Kther
odge is said to have opened tho
woman's pocketbook and taken a
' smal-'er purse in which the diamonds
were. The special officer caught the
. pickpocket "red-handed" and imme
diately turned him over to Dan Brad
ley, local detective. Etheredge was
searched a'nd the diamonds were
found hidden in his shoes and one
large one in the inner band of his
hat, police report.

?Curtis Johnson, brother of State
Senator .Johnson, of Marshall county,
Shot and killed four persons today
and then committed suicide. Family
troubles were the cause. The dead
are: A. B. Caston, his father-in-law;
Jessie Caston, his sister-in-law; Mrs.
A.? B. Caston, his mother-in law, and
Mrs. Caston Johnson, his wife. D?\
Johnson and his wife had been sep
arated for three months. The shoot
ing occurred at his father-in-law's
heme near Mcltonville, Ala., several
mie- from here, in a remote, section.

Since all circuses are advertised as
the "World's Greatest," we may say
that lb# circus which will bo put on
by the hand at the ball field Saturday,
November 15, at 3 o'clock is the
"greatest show on earth."
If present plans materialize fully
ciii hundred people*will take part in
this great spectacle, including clowns,
snake charmers, Spanish dancers,
three great brass bands, cowboys,
soldiers and all the personnel that
makes a circus complete.
There will also be shown the great
est menagerie of wild animals the
world has ever seen including some
antidituvian species (now practically
extinct) such as giant hootus, ring
tailed snorter, wire haired wampus
and the bat-eared dinosaur. This
menagerie also includes elephants,
ostrich, trained ponies, giraffe, zebras
and others too numerous to mention.
Watch for the gigantic street
parade which will be held immediate
ly,proceeding the performance. There
will be only one performance so be
sure to be there at Wateree Mills
baseball field, November 15, 3 o'clock
p.m. sharp.
