A..Wittkowsky has been ap pointed chairman of the delegation of leading Jews of this city who are ex peeled to attend the Subscribers' Con vention of the National Jewish Hospi tal for Consumptives which will be held at the institution in Denver on June '22 nd. Thousands of leading Jews from all over the United States will participate in this unique affair, which has been arranged in order to give the hosts of men and women all over the country an opportunity to participate in the twenty-fifth anni \er.-ar.y of the founding of this insti tution and get a first hand conception of i:> magnitude. Lockee Evangelistic Campaign is scheduled to begin with the Blaney Baptist church the 3rd of June, the first service to be held in the church at 7:30 p. m. of that date. Prepara tions for the meeting are going for ward quite satisfactorily and a great deal of inteVest is being shown in the movement. Good congregational sing ing under the leadership of both a senior and junior choir will be one of the features of this meeting. Quite a number of singers from neighboring churchbs find communities have ex pressed their willingness to help with this essential feature. Mr. Lockee is a preacher of excel lent reputation and real pulpit power. He is an Indian and is a member of what is known as "Old Charley's Band", a remnant of ' the Cherokee tribe .that remained in North Carolina when the tribe emigrated from the hills of northern Georgia to the In dian Territory. The Cherokees have the well merited name of being the mo*t enlightened and progressive of all American Indiians and Mr. Lockee occupies a distinguished place in the foremost ranks of these remarkable I people. Mr. Lockee's Indian nama isl Lochlaaha the meaning of which is^fl "I hold last/' which is quite an appro priate name in this case. The public generally is cordially invited to attend this meeting and receive a share of the good things it will bring. J. B. S. R. A. V^ebb, of Bridgewater, N. C., was killed and Ben Lumpkin, a negro, of Chester county, is at the Pryor Hospital, probably fatally injured with one hand gone and the sight of both eves extinguished and with his chin blown, off and otherwise badly hurt, as the result of a terrific ex plosion of dynamite at Nitrolee in Chester county. The verdict of the inquest, which was ? empaneled by Coroner J. Henry Gladden, was that Mr. Webb came to his death by acci dental explosion of dynamite in his own hands by his own carelessness. Mr. "Webb and the negro are said to have bc-en dynamiting fish in Catawba River when the accident occurred. Mr. Webb's body was brought to Chester this afternoon and sent to his home at Bridgewater. It is thought that both men were lighting the fuse of both joints of dynamite off of bne torch and that they started to throw it into the river and thought that it had not been sufficiently ignited and it is thought they stuck the fuses back to the torch when the explosion occurred. Due to their alertness they were able to engage Madam Florence Parkhurst, soprano, and Miss Marion May, contralto, who was to sail on June 9th for Scotland. Concerning these two artists who appeared in joint recital February (J in Wisconsin, the Journal said in paijt: "It was a charm of America's harmony, a shading of expression, a gaity of sun that have given new life in a high degree. The sparkling and sunshine, the unbounded charm, the fragrant and shining melodious souftd i?a voice with the splendid Belcanto Legato, the great softness and the accomplish,- the brilliant crystal with so much soul in it, these are the most delightful charms of this happy and technically very high standing art of singing. It was a rare treaC to lis ten to this polished and graceful col orature with the liveliest musical comprehension.
