DIRECTORS HELD MEETING. *r Matters Discussed at Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday. At the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce held Tuesday the follow ing directors were present: . J. B. Zenip. R. B. The fol v lowing matters came before the meet ing: The Secretary presentd the rc que.M of the Civic League Committer that the directors endorse a move ment for weekly half-holiday among the business establishments of Cam den, during the months of July and August. Ritchie and Secretary Reardon to be ex officio members of the joint com mittee, Secretary Reardon presented re commendation of the Civiy Improve ment and Sanitation Bureau that a committee be appointed to appear be fore the City Council requesting that necessary legislation be enacted re garding the rapid removal of all de composing disease and fly-breeding refuse and garbage and to take up with City Council the question of pro viding the necessary fund to purchase snfficient equipment for the frequent removal from the City of such refuse. Moved and seconded that the above named committee on Rest Room take this matter up while they are discussing Rest Room proposition with City Council. Mr. L. C. Shaw reported on visit to Sumter of Sumter Committee re garding project No. 2(> State Highway System and maintenance of 10 miles of the State Highway in Kershaw and Sumter Counties, at meeting of the County Commissioners of Sumter County on May 1st. Secretary Rear don instructed to keep in touch with the officials of Sumter County until this matter is settled. Moved and seconded that the Board of Directors convoy, through Secre tary Reardon, to Mr. John Stevens, their thanks for his interest" in, and the splendid talk made in, the interest of committee who appeared before the Sumter County Commissioners. .Chairman C. P. DuBose of Special Y. M. C. A. Committee reported pro gress at one meeting held of interest ed citizens at which Mr. ' Lanham, State Y. M. C. A. Secretary furnish ed information and that this commit tee would call another meeting of the citizens within the next two weeks.* This committee was requested to con tinue its activities. Mr. B. G. Sanders asked that he and Mr. Kennedy he granted more time as members of the Membership Committee. The suggestion of the Agricultural Bureau that community canneries be established through the county in such sections as may be deemed ad-* visable and necessary was endorsed. The secretary presented the matter of encouraging the planting of tobac co in Kershaw County and the supply ing of suitable warehouse selling fa cilities. It was stated that Mr. H. G. Carrison, Sr., was n)ttch interested and had offered to subscribe $1,000 in stock for a warehouse, plant ten acres of tobacco, and to take the lead in this movement. Moved and -adopted that Mr. Carrison with the Secretary be requested to invite such farmers as Mr. Carrison may name who might be interested and to have them, with Mr. Carrison, meet with the Board of Directors at such time as Mr. Carri son might designate. The Board of Directors heartily approved of the recommendation of the chairman of the Relationship Be tween City, County and the business and professional men and women of Camden put on a series of Booster trips and Get -Together meetings in jural sections this summer for the purpose of uniting town and country, and to inaugurate the triple alliance of Hog, Hen and Cow feature of Farm diversification. Plans for these nreet ing*-to be shaped up by this com niitttee. The Secretary was requested to col lect $10.00 to help pay for two page advertisement of Camden and Ker shftw County in the official program of South Carolina Convention of th^ American legion. K. I. The two violators were placed under arrest and taken to Camden and lodged in jail. Their outfit was des poiled. On the day previous the Magistrate and his constable captured a .'i0-gallon ?^tiil and a 50-gallon barrel of mash and other paraphernalia in the West villc* community on the William Peach place, near Clyburn's old mill.
