About sixty acres have been pledged
to peanuts in the territory south of
ILancaster and west of Heath Springs
by the farm mem The object in grow
ing the peanuts is to get acquainted
with the crop on n small weale this
year and also to get started with seed.
The white Spanish variety will be
planted and seed for planting purposes
have bceii bought and the farmers who
intend planting a small acreage of this
crop can get the seed at cost from the
oil mills at Lancaster and Kershaw
and from the Springs Mercantile Oo.

With the arrest early Saturday
morning of Boosevett Houston, police
officers Bell and Caskey did a neat
piece of detective work. Saturday

been broken open and $130.00 taken.
Patrolmm Caskey started an Investi
gation and as Houston had delivered
a suit from a local pressing club at.
Mr. Parr's home Friday afternoon
when there was no one at hotoc, he
was arrested and on being searched
the $130 was found In his possession.
On being questioned it is said that he
admitted the theft. Houston tfas taken
before Magistrate Culp and bound
over on bond for the next term of
court.
Lady Injured.
Mrs. O. S. Lee was right painfully
Injured Monday morning in front of
Iiha me brother's'store when she was
thrown from her horse and one of
the lee wagons of Mr. It. I>. Moaeley
passed over her. Ma*. Lee auflfered
? badly bruised lower limb but for
^uately no bones were broken. The
accident happened while she was sK
thip on ber horse and holding the
horse of her husband. It was caused,
it Is said, by an automobile driven
by Rochelle Hall, of MJcBee, backing

to dash, and hi the mixup Mrs. Lee
was thrown, under tb? wagon.
Mr. Hall was arrested, but later
released under bond. Ilo will appear
for trial before Recorder .Singleton

Mr*. Lee is a tourist spending the
.winter here and was carried to the
hospital and we lean was not serious

Massey, who on last, Saturday had a

accosted Johnson about the matter amd

Johnson being Unprepared to defend
himself, and another negro being in
company of Cunningham, he went to
a store, and secured an axe handle
to protect himself with. Coming In
contact with* the negro 4 again Mr.
Johnson questioned the negro regard -
lug hiR abuse of him and^the negro
renewed his cupsLng and sprang in
close to' him before he had an oppor
tunity to strike a foil blow. The
negro had n knife in his hand and
seizing hold of the axe .handle with4
his left hand he began' cutting and
inflicted one right severe wound under
the left arm, which necessitated the
taking" Off about eightstitches. Others
coming to them, the negro ran, but
was overtaken by Lieutenant Plyler,
who followed him In an automobile,
and was brought back, and Was taken
by Lieutenant Plyler and Magistrate
Itot>erta to Lancaster and delivered to
Sheriff Hunter. While the wound of
Mr. Johnson confines him to his home
and tied, it Is not thought by his phy
sician Dr. Gregory to be serious.
