The Jackson colored schools closed Thursday of last week with interesting exercises, completing a year of success ful work with an enrollment, of 455 and with an average attendance of 317. The school had a faculty of a principal, Rev. .P. B. Mdodana and five assistants. The annual address was delivered by Mr. L. T. Mills,, and" Mr. I. J. M<?Kenzi<* made the address to the graduates end pre sented the diplomas to the eleven grad uates. The annual sermon was delivered by the Itev. A. J. S. Brown at Mt. Mo riah Baptist church on the first Sunday in June. The first scholarship modal was won by Ilattie Cureton. second by Frances Alexander. The declamation medal went to Ellen Reynolds. In the contest be tween the fifth and sixth grades firtt prize medal went to Ellen iSveed Rey nolds, second to Wilhelminn Lee Dibble and honorable mention to Ruth Marion Alexander. In contest between third and fourth grades first prize medal went to Ellis Harris Sanders, wooond to Carrie Bell Pauley and honorable mention to Monroe Brown and John Pickett. Jr. Mr. Johti T. Mac-key had been asked to make the modal presentation ? but ? Mhv Mills acted for him. Cases Were Dismissed. The cases brought againvt Herbert Mc Glrt and Will Bracey, Charged with cell ing whiskey were dismiased by Recorder Singleton when they were brought up for 'trial last Friday. The cases were dropped for the ^reason there Was not sufficient evidence, and in the case of Hert>ert McGirt many of the white peo ple as well as the negroes knew him by past reputation and did not believe him guilty of the charge and interceded in his bebaftf. . McGirt has not resided in Camden for a good man jf years and since coming here has borne a good rep utation.
