A demonstration of this kind will be of untold value to the farmer, as well as to the consumer and it will be the means of putting them in close touch with each other and Will pos glbly bo tho means of a farmer find ing a market for his products. Thursday, October 26th, will be known as Columbia Day. There is quite (a lot of enthusiasm aroused already [ and competition will be keen for the prizes which wifl be awarded for the best display. This parade will be formed at Elmwood avenue and pass through tho principal streets of the city, returning to Main street, where all of these floats will be parked In order thafr-visitors may closely inspect them. Street dancing will be Indulged in in the shape of a fancy dress ball, In which all dancers will be required to j come in fancy costumes to compete for cash prizes. The freo shows which will bo held on Main street are all to be on at the same hour, and there will be a show or an amusement of some kind at the intersection of every street on Main between the postoftlce and the capitol. The committee is selecting high grade attractions for this street work. Official Opening Parade. This parade is to be formed, headed by the entire police department, gov ernor and staff, State officials, fair officials, visiting city officials, entire municipal department of Columbia, and the business men of Columbia by groups, consisting of bankers, mer chants, wholesalers, manufacturers, and other branches of business, who will be in automobiles with pennants showing the name of the business so represented. This parade will be formed at the Jefferson hotel, proceed to the fair grounds, where the gov ernor will formally open the fair. Prominent speakers will be on hand. | It is the idea to make the offiolal opening of the fair of such magni tude as to attract State-wide atten tion. Coronation of the Queen. The social feature of the South Car olina Harvest Jubilee will be ushered in with the crowning of the queen, who will be selected by popular vote from the entire State. The queen's pageant will bo formed at the Jeffer son hotel at 8 o'clock, and will pro ceed to the capitol, where the queen will be crowned by the governor, after which grand marches and dancing will bo partlclpatod in directly in front of the capitol. This parade is to be oriental in effect, and all participants are ex pected to be in oriental costume. The younger dancing set of Colum bia will be In charge of this entire feature, and it will be one of the biggest social events of the season. Floral Parade. The Floral Parade, which is to be held on Tuesday at 6 p. m., forming at Elmwood avenue, will be another feature of the Harvest Jubilee festiv ities which will appeal to the ladies. -Three? liberal cash prizes wiH?be^ of fered for the prettiest float. This , parade Is open to all classes of vehi cles and they will be grouped into classes. It is left entirely to the par Cl&BSCS. The prizes offered are $60, $26 and $15 respectively. Skating Carnival. The skating carnival on Tuesday will be In fancy dress. Prizes of $25, $10 and $6 are to be awarded for the best couple. All entrants must be In fancy costume and will form on Lady street, and there assigned a number, will form a line and march on skates to some nearby intersecting street, where the carnival and contest will be held. All contestants must participate In the parade. This will possibly be the only skating contest held during the week, as other attractions will take up the time. Street Dance. After arranging for the street dance the committee has decided that the first open air dance will be informal as much as possible, owing to another dance which will be held later In the W66k. The dance on Wednesday night, Oc tober 25th, will start at 8:30 o'clock and continue to 15., and it is proba ble that it will be held on some street intersecting Main. This street, of course, will be put in proper condition for dancing, and decorations will add much to its scenic effect. There will be no prizes offered for this dance. Hie Trades Parade. The big Trades Parade scheduled for Thursday, October 26th, which is Columbia Day, is rapidly taking shape, and present indications point to a larger number of floats than last year. This parade will form at West Elmwood avenue at 4:80 p. m. Each float will be assigned a number so that their position will be readily lo gated. * This parade will leave Elmwood avenue promptly at 4:30 o'clock, and will pass through Main to Lady, from Lady to Sumter, through Sum ter to Laurel or Elmwood avenue, where It will countermarch into Mam street and all floats will be parked on either side of Main street near the curb rs was done lwt year. One of tho important features of i the Harvest Jublleo will bo tho crown ing of the beauty queen, to take place at the State capltol on the evening I of October 2 3d. In this ceremony the I governor of the State will officiate, assisted by a committee from the Co lumbia Chamber of Commerce, a com mittee of promnlent Columbia ma trons, and four maids of honor, who will attend upon tho queen. The queen and her maids will be selected by popular vote from the photographs reproduced in this sup plement, all of which have been sub mitted by newspapers or local com I mlttees in the various countios of South Carolina. The young: lady re ceiving tho greatest number of votes will bo announced queen at the closo of this contest, and the three next in order in the voting will be appointed maids of honor, a fourth maid of honor will bo personally appointed by tho queen. In order that the votes be cast strictly on the merits of the photo graphs, all names and addresses have been purposely omitted and each can didate has been assigned a number by which sho will bo known In the vot ing. The Queen will be allowed the privilege of appointing the fourth maid of honor. This la done in order that the Queen may be accompanied to Columbia by one of her personal friends. They will, upon arrival, be furnished with a complete programme of the social en gagements for the week. The coronation will take .place on the plaza of the capitol at 9 p. m. Mon day, October 23d. The parade will form at the Jefferson Hotel and leave promptly at 8:30. The procession will march down Main street, escorted by Adluh Band. Boy Hcouts, Shrlners and the Harvest Jubilee Band. Upon ar rival at the capitol the party will be met by Governor Manning, who will crown the Queen, after which there will be a grand maroh, followed by the Queen's ball on the plasa, lasting until 11 o'clock. Adluh Band of Columbia has asked j permission to entertain the Queen and her attendants at a recaption at the i Jefferson Hotel immediately following j the Queen's ball at the capitol. Special entertainment for the Queen and her court In the form of a fancy drees ball, skating carnival, football game*, golf, automoblling, etc., has been provided for by the Harvest Jubi lee Committee. Crowning of the Queen. The crowning of tho Queen of the Second Annual Soiith Carolina Har vest Jubtleo will take place at 8:30 p. in. on the north porch of tho cap Itol. on Monday night, October 2 3rd. Governor Manning will proclaim tho young lady who is cleoted as queen of the Harvest Jublleo for 1916, and bid her rolgn begin. Directly after tho coremonles the grand march and queen's ball will be bold on tho capitol plaza, after which a roception by Ad luh Band will bo held In tho audito rium of tho Jefferson hotel, In honor of the queen and hor court. Baker, of Biahopville, organizer and aupervlaor of boys' corn and pig clubs throughout the State, aaya he haa thla year 2,260 boya in the corn and pig clubs and that he ia urging all who poaalbly can go to attend the State fair. He ia now engaged in building a magnificent float, represen tative of the work of the two organi zations, and he la anxloua that the youtha who compose thla army of agri cultural experta come to Columbia that week. Thirty-threo countlea have been orgahlzed for the pig clubs and 41 for the corn cluba. The State fair la offering nrlzes to the amount of $75 for th# three classea of entries. Three first prlzea of $12 each and a similar number of aecond and third prlzea of $8 and $6, reapectlvely, are to be awarded. In addition to this amount The Duroc Bulletin of Chicago ia offering a silver cup, valued at $60, for the best Duroc boar under one year old. The Bork ahire association offera four prlzea of $12.60 each aa follows: For tho best purebred Berkshiro gilt under one year old; for tho best purebred Berkshire brood sow one year old, accompanied by litter; for the beat purebred Berkshire boar un der one year old; and for tho best purebred Berkshire boar over one year old. All entries in the boys' de partment will be free, but a fee will bo collected when the exhibit is placed in competition with Stato entries. During the year there has been a great influx of purebred stock into South Carolina, Mr. Baker having placed ordera for more than $6,000 worth of purebred pigs for tho mem bers of the clubs.
