Speed is an essential element in com mercial life, and with a swift aero plane mall service, the time of deliv ering letters could be reduced enor mously. We must create an aerial fleet in time of. f>eaoe. Aeroplanes, com i mi ratlvely, are not expensive, and in a Mine of emer gency. a supply of machines could not be had. Hut. It takes time to train aviators. It takes as long to make an aviator as it does to make a soldier. And the day will come when hostile machines will hover over our cities. Without an aeroplane fleet, we are helpless to repulse the attackers. "The great cost of the dirigible ren ders It a more difficult problem to build them for use in times of peace. The item of cost reduces the rhances of profitable oj>eratlon. It has been sug gested that they be used for tourists In the national parks, or that high price tours from coast to coast be ar ranged by dirigible.
