ance of Mrs, M. A. Shannon, the
Chapter' was deprived, not only of

come one ? but also of the enjoy
ment of her paper on the study of
the evening:, "Laurens and King
Btree^s; Henry and John Laurens;
King George III." From the his
torical scrap book , however, a short
Sketch of John Laurens was found
and read by. Mre. Jno. Cantey,
which proved interesting, as did al
io a- number of items read by the
Hegent on the life and character
Df Henry Laurens.
The well arranged literary and
musical program included one of
Lo d Byron's poems, "Fare thee
well", which was impressively re
cited by Mrs. S. A. Wlttkowsky.
Then, two delightful instrumental
duets were given by Misses Good-'
ale and Williams, which were bright
and inspiring and altogether enjoy
able. And loiter on, two lovely
Bongp by Mrs. L: T. Mills gave
great pleasure. ..

The MubIc Club had a delightful
afternoon meeting with the Club's
president, Mrs, W. It. Kve, Jr., on
Thursday afternoon. An excellent
program was presented by members
of the club, and the names of Miss

added to tho membership roll. Mrs.

The regular meeting of the Hos
pital Auxiliary will be held with
Mrs. B. H. Baum Monday afternoon,
Fe' ruary 23rd, at 4 o'clock. This
is tne annual meeting for the elec
tion of offlcerra and other tmpor

On Wednesday evening Mr. T.
J. Kirkiand was an agreeable host
to a number of his friends. There
were four tables of bridge and the
men proved that they could not be
excelled In the art ofplaylng this

carnations were used everywhere,
and dainty bouquets wore sold at
an attractive flower booth by MIbs
Louise Blukoney. MIbs Annie Work
man served at the. candy booth and
Miss Louise Shannon stood at the
door to receive the. guests, v. The
dainty refreshments were served by
Misses Bessie Lenoir, Annie Alex
ander and ? others. The afternoon
was dark and gloomy, but did not
prevent quite a largo crowd attend-"
ing, and the amount rccoived was
very gratifying.
