A cloud of sorrow and gloom set tled over our entire lltle city Wed nesday morning when the announce ment was made that MIbs Beasio Jordan had died in tho early hour? of Che morning. She had only been alck about a week, and the aerious neaa of her Illness was not general ly known. Her dea-tli came as a shock to a host of friends upon whose faces genuine sorrow was de picted. Miss Jordan was thirty-one years of age and waa one of the most popular young women in Cam den. She was a graduate of tho Col lege for Women and her social en dowments, combined with intellect ual attainments made her a favorite with everyone. The funeral ser vices were held from Grace Church, Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock, con : ducted by the Itev. P. H. Harding, 1 the Rev; W. B. Gordan, of Camden, and the Rev. A. S. Thomas, of , Cheraw. The funeral was largely i attended and tho floral tributes nu ! merous and beautiful. She waa laid 'to rest under a- blanket of roses, lilies and carnations ? expressions of love and remembrance from those' who held her dear. To the sorrow stricken family we extend sympa thy. The officers are: W. M. Shannon, president; L. A. Wittkow sky, secretary; and M. Barucrh, treas urer. The hospital has beer estab lished to give "free treatment to such citizens of Kershaw as shall be entitled to its benefits." Work was commenced yesterday on the roadway leading to the West Wateree side of the bridge. Super visor West now has the chain gang located there and tells us that this does not mean a new roadway but the old road will be fixed up so that it will be passible in case <the river does not go over a hightln of 30 feet; ? ? I^awson severed his connection with the Camden I)aptist Ohurch last Sunday night, During his Btay in Camden Mr. haw spn did a good work. lie was a man of. deep piety and consecration, and although quiet and unosten tatious 1]1b sermons were effective. Not only was ho esteemed by his own congregation but by the entire community as well, as wnB testified at the farewell service on Sunday night. Mr. Lawson left Camden to serve the Church at Laurens where, it is hoped, he will be abundantly blessed. Making Improvement*. An extra force of hands are now employed at the plantoftlieCarollna Public Service Company, in thiB city, making improvements and changes on 'the Interior and exterior of the building. The buildings and towers at both pumping station and power house are being repainted and the machinery overhauled.
