Daring the storm last Monday
evening one of the houses on the
factory hill whs i-truck hy lightning
?nd considerably damaged. Tim
lightning struck the chimney and
ran down the stove Hue into the
room. Mr. .1. II llnggins, an old
gentleman wan at ending nut far
from the Btovo smoking his pipe,
and we are told, the electricity left
the stove, ran down one of his leys
ami completely lore one of his shoes
from bib loot. Of course that pipe
wan forthwith forgotten, but outside
of a pretty good acare no great dam
age wuH do no to him.
Two Deserters Pass Through Camden.
Theodore MeGruw and Samuel
Blake, two deserters from the U. S.
navy panned through Camden or;
Monday afternoon in charge of
Chief of Police, 1'. C. Partlow^ of
Rock Mill. They deserted at Port
ltoynl mi April 21). *I'h?iy enlisted
on March 2hth ami therefore had
been in service only uric month, and
one day. They were both from
Hock Hill and ufter deserting re
turned there where tiny w<*re eap
tureo on July ith. They were
brought hy Camden over the S. C.
tV C ft x . railroad in order to make
connection with the Seaboard rail
road. While in Camden between
trains they were placed in juil for
safe keeping. Chief l'artlow left
with bin prisoners on the X o'clock
train for Norfolk where they were
to be delivered upon the steamship
??Franklin. ^

ble. The wife was also present and

harm to her, Tt was a sort of nom

warned them that they had to live
more quiet in the future.

I "It was the editor's privilege and

last Friday. There was a large
and jolly crowd present. Damas
cus is a line community of people,
who spare no pains in taking care
of a visitor, and it can therefore he
understood that we had au enjoy
able time. Tho people of that vi
cinity are awakening to a need of
improved educational advantages,

the daughter of Mr. Nicholas Aun

of last year- She leaves a little son
