Tho following is tho announc ment of the secrotary : "The U3J aunual South Carolina State Fair will l>o held in Columbia from Monday, Oct. 'JStli. to Friday, Nov. lot, inclusive. Entiles are absolutely free oxcept. where otherwise stated, and all pre miums regularly awarded will be paid iu full. No part of tho pre mium money is retained by the so ciety on any pretext whatever. The management seeks to oncour ago the exhibition of only such an imals and products as are really mer ttions and are of utility and profit to the people of tho State. This is the one gieat ohjoet of tho Fair, and the society is imbued with an ambition to add a new zest and a new dignity to agricultural and mechanical pur suits and secure increase'.? due '.ice and greater remuneration to those r-T^aged in tlieni. The premium list has been care fully revised, and the society wishes to call attention to the_ inducements offered that will certainly attract the bost exhibits that can he shown iu every cla^s. The achievement,* of the Stale Agricultural and Mechanical Society in promoting the development of ag? riculture and il s allied industries have never been fully appreciated even by its best frionds; its possibil ities for future usefulncB* in suggest* ing and diuscminating ideas that will materialize in improved crops, Jive stock and farm practice cannot bo overestimated. The large attendance at the Fair offers a splendid inducement to man ufacturers to make elaborate displays of their works. On all the leading railroads of the State entering Co lumbia low excursions rates will be given during Fair week, thus extend ing facilities for visiting the Fair to the people of every quarter of tho State. I Visitors to Columbia will find much to entertain them besides the Fair.
