is left. The strawberry crop is a
larger yield than it has ever been be
fore, tho' it is a little lato on account
of tbe cold we have had, and the
prices have decreased some, first
from the enormous quantity eoing
forward and socond from the freez
ing weather in eastern markets, to
~ yotl some Idea of tliTs business
?? on Saturday last, 8,000 crates of
berries and radishes were shipped
from thin section of country, the
balk going to Chicago, the prices
have ranged for berries from $1.25 to
$3.00 radishes from 50c to $1.10.
With warm sun, more will be mar
keted this week, by the end of the
week peas will go forward, cabbage
are also going. The growers here
range from the garden patch to 80
r to 40 acres, of berries. The Louis
iana berries outsell Texas. There
is little attention paid to aoy other
crop before May. The. colored peo
ple here are successful berry grow

ami flowers and found it fully up to
onr oxpoctations. I tliink this the
garden spot of the world. I have
traveled through nearly all of tlio
states and nono of them compare
with California. The land here will
grow anything that can be grown in
any part of the world; though you
have to water by irrigation. It has
heen very dr^^ere for the last three
years, but wells are being' bore! all
around and an abundance of water
is being gotten.
I have bought, a walnut ranch con.
taining nino and a quarter acres.
The trees are fine some of them are
ton inches through and are bearing.
They are not full bearers. I have

prunes, pears, apricots, neclarines,
plums, grapes, oranges, olive*,
quince, peaches and apples which
will give me a handsome incomc in
about two years, or perhaps less lime,
t had to build a house on my ranch,

My place is about twenty rods

There are about thirty oil wolls neat
this place and more are being drill
ed. Men are getting rich on oil

ney. You can get eighteen dollars j
per ton for cabbage, and if well cul

walnuts, besides my other fruits
which will amount to a good deal

The water is dot so good, that is
the greatest draw back here, bat the
