If they de crease the acreage thesl' mortgages are foreclosed and the farm is turned over to others who will not decrease the acreage. If there are no mortgages on stock or lund the supplies furnished by the merchant will be decreased in proportion to the decrease in cotton acreage. The control of cotton acreage has. to a great extent passed from the white farmers or cotton growers whaNfoi merly owned the cotton lands of tho United States. The .merchants and laud loan compa ;nios are fust absorbing these lauds and controlling the acreage by ne gro tenants. If the merchants and land loan companies would aid the cotton growers in their ell'orts to decrease the acreage we might hope to succeed. If they do not we must endeavor to change our environments. The lien Ittw should be repealed. With f> cent cotton no man can pay lien priced foi farm supplies. The consequence is that l<6 is in perpetual bouda^e to the lien merchant.
