The meeting was called t?> oidei by Capt. .1. 0. Rollings who in a neat and well wouled speech slat ed the object of the meeting and said the convention would now en ter into a permanent organization by the election of ollicers. Capt. .1. C. Rollings was elect ed President and W. L. McOow ell Secretary. ll was then sag gested that it might not be amiss to have two secretaries and C. ? lJirchmore, Ksf|., was elected. Mr. Rirchmore was not present but later came iin Hon. W. K. Russell moved that four Vice-Presidents ? one from each township ? be elected, where upon Messrs. \V. A. Ancium, W.K Russell, I). M. Rcthune and H. F. Roy kin wore elected. The organization of the Associ ation having been completed lion. \V. K. Russell in behalf of the body called upon our distinguished f ?T - low citizen, Col. Floyd, (who repic Beiited the county at the cotton glowers' convention which met in Columbiu Fair week ) for a state ment of l/ie results of that meeting, and his 1'iews as to policy and rnn ? edies for existing evils now under consideration. Floyd at twice responded, and we hesitate nol to say that lor clear and lucid thought combined with his acknowledged eloquence of delivery we, have sel dom, if ever, scon his speech sur passed, and its but just lo add that his stirring appeal urging a eoneil jalion and union of Southern com mercial, manufacturing, agricultur al, professional and laboiing inter ests in the grand purposes contem plated, aroused an enthusiasm thai brought forth bursts of appbitise.
