'JV' Wants Our Legislators to Ntalo What Part (IT an.v) They Took in tho Sham JlatMo Excursion. Ed. Chronicle: ? Some lime ago nn artiolo appeared in The Clitoni olo signed X, criticising things in general viz: Haplists, Methodists, Baptist Courier, Southern Chris tian Advocate, State' colleges nnd iho Legislature. Ah no one has thought this harangue of X's worth replying to, no doubt X vainly im agines that all those persons and institutions have been utterly do. iholishod by that so called criti cism. X thinks that the Legisla ture (K large should bo held ac countable for most of its actions, luit why did not X go a little fur ther and any that tho minority fihould not be blamed or get credit for what the majority does or fails to do, as the case may be? Among all of X's dial!", one grain of wheat is found, so to speak; that is the criticism of the Legislature for leaving its post of duty and going oil" to see a sham battle at the cxponso of tho State, jf indeed it did it? And if it did, tho minority should not bo held nccountihlo for tho crime(V) of the majority. So far as our County is concerned, we believe wo are rep resented by a trio of conscientious men who won Id net act as princi ple, neither as accessor to any ouch a questionable job ; that is, that they would not vote for talc ing tho time and money of their constituents to go oil' on an excur sion to see a sham battfc or any thing else hot in connection with their duty as legislators ; and even if carried by a majority 'of the leg islature, wo hardly ihiulr that our representatives would have taken part in the excursion, and do in justice to themselves and their constituents, we would ask that each of our delegation slate through the columns of The Chron icle, their position in regard to the "sham hattlo excursion," for if they took no stock in that all'air, (and wo can hardly believe they . did ) their constituents would be gratified to know that no such crit icism as that advanced by X is ap plicable to i he delegation of their choiee. I'ut if they or any of them ho far forgot themselves and the principle on which they were elect ed, it is nothing but proper that their constituents be advised of the fact. Of course this is quite a small matter, but the trash on the water vindicates the direction in which thocniront moves. \\\ T.
