Home Talent to the Fron' "Trifles," a two-act comejy. wil" be presented at the Opera House on Thursday, May 12th, by local amateurs. The play itself is the production of loeal talent, and is well worthy of the patronn<?e ?f the community, being bright, in teresting and laughable. The pro ceeds of the entertainment will be given to the Camden Cornet Band, whieh is well worthy of the as sistance. Re member the date, Thursday, May 12th, i The jipera House Leased Althe meeting of the city coun cil Monday evening the Opers Hons! was leased for the coming year la Mr. E. M. Roberts, bis b:d : being i-lbe highest of the twoj submitted. Mr. Roberts has had considerable experience in matters theatrical in Charleston and other places, and has appeared success fully on the stage in several plays as a amateur actor. He will doubt lee ?oke xl -success of the manage menu and theater goers may ex pect a splendid season ahead. Fie ha?fe!ready communicated with the Dramatic News and Dramatic Mir ror of New York to secure adrer tising space, and draw the atten tion of first class companies to oar beautiful Theater, and will get the aasintencc of the manager* of the Charleston and Columbia Theaters in -booking companies to play here. Another thing he intends doing is to endeavor to srcnre a summer opera here. The Gran Opera Com pany will play in Charleston for two months, finishing the engage- j ment the first week in Jnly ; it is probable that they would come her* for two or three nights after tearing there. Camden has never hart a fnll opera troupe to play here, as 'they cannot afford to go to smaU places, but if the Gran Com- j pany, which has forty members in it, should come here, it would doubt less be T.ell patronized not only by i residents of this place, but would draw well from neighboring towns. We trust he will succeed in getting the company here, as it would be to the advantage of all concerned, and an attractive advertisement for the town.
