Tho new oiling system assures an extra supply of oil to the bearings when most needed that is, when the car is being driven a* bove 70 m. p. h. for long periods. At lower engine speeds, lubricat ion of the cranl^pins is provided by oil picked up from trough's by dip pers on the connecting rods. The oil pan troughs aru kept filled by tho oil pump, which feeds fresh oil through nozzles opening below the surface level. At high engino speeds, as tho pump pressure increases, oil ia forced from these nozzles with ef ficient force to cause high pressuro stroams of oil to bo thrown clear ' across the crankcase, directly in iho path^ of the connecting rod dippers. Because of the high speed of tho dippers as the engine turns over 3000 or more r. p. m., they hit tho solid stream of oil witlh so much forco that trerhendous pressure is created. The oil flows through the outlet h\ the top of the dipper and is forced through tho deep grooves in tho connecting rod bearing. Tho force of the impact of the oil stream pro vides positive lubrication to the ? n tire surface of tth<e bearing, and clours away any obstruction in tho o'.l grooves, much as a high pressuro stream of water from a firo' engino rips roofing from a building.
