Two tanks, one containing gaa compressed to a liquid and the other a liquid that turns Into a smoke-like gas when released into the air, are car ried on the policeman's back. By turning a valve on the gun, the op erator may prepare to discharge ei ther gas or a combination of the two. When the trigger Is pressed, the gas Is projected several feet In a vol ume 300 times that of the liquid In the tcnks. Flexible metal tubes con nect the gun to the tanks. The op erator la protected by a gas mask. The smoke gas may be used to con fuse criminals or rioters, as well as to shield a police squad from the eyes of gunmen, while the tenr gas 1s held In reserve In the event of continued reslstence. The gas may be directed through the keyhole, under the door or through a hole bored by a pistol bul let through the door of a criminal's hideout. I. Falsa Prayer (vv. 5. 7. 8). 1. Praying to he soon and heard of (v. r>) . To go through the net of praying -with such nn object Is to play the hypocrite. In praying, the soul Is dealing with God; therefore, ro engage In It to attract men's attention is blasphemy. Many of the prayers uttered In the public sanctunry are false, for there Is more consideration given to what the people think than to what God thinks. Men who thus pray got a reward, but not from God. 2. Using vain repetitions (vv. 7, 8). This does not mean that we should ask but once for the tiling desired, for we have examples of Christ and I^aul praying throe times for the same thing. Since true prayer Is ? definite transaction of the soul with God. the communion of the human personality with the divine personality, we should have a real desire for fellowship with God and then go to meet him in secret. Ufe tor its fullest development needs both solitude and companion ship. Solitude alone makes one mo rose, while constant companionship makes one shallow. God who made us knew what our natures required, therefore he commands both public and private prayer (Heb. 10:25; Matt. 0 :G). We should have our closet prayers, when all tho world, its carcs and pleasures, is shut out, and we are shut In with God. We should nlso meet with God's children to pray. III. A Model Prayer (vv. 9-15). This was given in response to the disciples' request that the Lord would teach them to pray (Luke 11:1). it Is not, therefore, strictly the Lord's prayer, but the model prayer for the disciples. It Involves: 1. A right relationship (v. 9). One must be in such relationship as to he able to say "Our Father." Only those j who have become children of God by faith In Jesus Christ (Gal. 3:20) can pray aright. 2. A right attitude (vv. 9, '10) "Hallowed be thy name." When one realizes that he has been delivered from the power of darkness nnd trans lated Into the kingdom of his dear Son (Col. 1 :13) by being made a child of God, he ennnot help pouring out his soul In gratitude and praise, intense ly longing for the kingdom? that Is, the righteous rule of Christ on the enrth. 3. A right spirit (vv. 11-13). a. That of trust which looks to God for the supply of dally bread. We are dependent upon him for our dally food. With all man's boasted prog ress, he ennnot mnke a harvest. b. That of love which results In forgiveness of others. God will not listen to the prayers of the one who has nn unforgiving spirit. c. That of holiness which moves one to pray not to he led Into temptation. Such n one longs to be delivered from the Kvll One. IV. Paul's Prayer for the Ephe slans ( Fph. 3:14-21). 1. To whom made (vv. 14, 15). Ft wns to the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ. 2. For whnt he prayed (vv. 10-19). a. For the strengthening of the In ner man by the Holy Spirit (v. 10). b. For Christ's Indwelling (v. 17) The human personality needs the i|ulckenlng of the Spirit In order that It might bo a fit place for Christ to dwell. c. That they might be rooted and grounded In love (v. 17). The only wny that real love can flow from the human heart Is through Christ's In dwelling. d. The apprehension of Christ's love (vv. 18. 19). This love. In Its depth, hrendth, width, nnd height, transcends huninri understanding. 3. The triumphant assurance that rhls will be realized (vv. 20, 21). This realization, which Is beyond human ability to even think, Is to be accom plished by the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
