RICHARDS-FRANCIS WEDDING AT LIBERTY HILL SATURDAY. Sept. 4. ? A very notable, event in the social life of our village was the marriage of Miss Mildred Ann Rich ards, daughter of former Governor and Mrs. John G. Richards, to Mr. Robert Chester Francis of Roanoke, Va. The happy event took place at 5:30 p. m. on September 2, at the fine old country home of Gov. and Mrs. Richards with Rev. Dr. C. M. Richards of Davidson, N C, uncle of the bride, speaking the words that joined two lives together for "weal or woe" until death shall break the bonds. Following the cereimony a sumptous dinner was served the wedding party, relatives and a few invited guests. After a wedding tour, the happy young couple will make their home in Roanoke, Va., where tho popular young bride will be followed by the best wishes of a host of admiring friends in her native state. ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED Mrs. Fred Roukos, of Columbia, announces the engagement of hei daughter, Lucile, to Mr. Austin She heen, of Camden. The wedding to take place November 21. HONORS MISS MACKEY Miss Harriett Beard entertained with a very delightful dinner and party Wednesday evening honoring Miss Mary Jane Mackey who left Thursday to enter training at the Philadelphia General Hospital. Eight of Miss Mackey's most inti mate friends were invited and each brought gifts for the honored guest. Dinner was served from a table very attractively decorated with a Red Cross motif. MISS OLIVE NETTLES ENTERTAINS FOR VISITOR Miss Olive Nettles was hostess at bridge on Wednesday afternuor en tertaining for her house guest, Miss Betty Blanton of Columbia. Contract bridge was enjoyed by twelve guests. Quanities of mixed flowers were used in rooom where the guests played. Top score prize was won by Miss Phyllis Carrison and the consolation prize warf cut by Miss Dotty Zemp. The honor guest received a dainty gift. The hostess served delightful re freshments. MRS. HUBERT WILSON HONORS SISTER-IN-LAW On Wednesday afternoon Mrs. Hubert Wilson was hostess at four tables of contract bridge compliment ing her sister-in-law, Mrs. Clarence Wilson of Philadelphia. Lovely vases of mixed flowers and ferns made an ideal setting for the players. Top scoer prize was won by Mrs. Henry Niles, the floating prize went to Mrs. (^eorge Wilson. Tho honor guest received a dainty gift. After cards the hostess served punch, sandwiches and cakes. ENTERTAINS FOR MR. ANI) MBS. H. T. SAXTON Mrs. Louise Cantey and Mrs. Jim Gandy were joint hostesses Wednes day evening at the former's home, entertaining at bridge for Mr. and Mrs. Harry T. Saxton of Woodberry Forest, Va. Four tables were ar ranged for contract in the living room where bowls of giant zinias and ele mates were used. Top score prizes wero won by Miss Martha Snyder, and Leon Tobin,the floating prize was last held by Mrs. Hughey Tindal. Mr. and Mrs. Saxton were present ed attractive gifts. Tho hostesses served fruit sherbert and sandwiches. After cards daneing was enjoyed. C. for their ten days training. Miss Marie Peacock of North Augusta and Frank Browne of Man ning were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Goodale.
