When the .church declines then .business, law, government and society alio decline. The me of false doctrines is a proof of the decline of the church. The prowth of the anti God societies is a challenge to the church today. The following figures are significant. The Berlin Deutsche Allenemeine Zeittung states that the j Alliance of the Militant Godless num bered 120,000 members in 1926. Two years later it numbered more than 600,000 and by the end of 1929 more than 2,000,000. By. the end of 1933 it aims to have 17,000,000 members.' Children are tuken in at eight years of age as juvenile pioneers, and *made 1 full fledged members .at foutreen.^ This is in Germany, the land ".'here Protestantism began. Let> us note these figures from our own country. The New York Time^ states: "The Methodists, who in 1929 suffered the first loss in 100 years, show the big gest decline for 1930, a total of 42, 211. The Presbyterians also lost heavily, having decreased by 22,7G3 communicants, and the Disciples of Christ lost 18,667. The biggest gain, 74,706 was made by the Baptists, and the second largest of 56,180 was made by the Lutherans. Moderate gams were ma^je by the Catholics, and Epis copalians, 17,526, and 16, 532 respect ively. No figures are given for in stance of Spiritualists. It is recorded that tbire are twelve Budhist temples in this country, with thirty-four priests and 5,638 worshippers. In Germany here 'he 1,700,000 Protest ants who have kft their churches and joined the societies of the Godless, while 300,000 Catholics have left their churches to join the Anti-God socio ties. This gives an idea of 'how the wind is blowing. What is the condition of the church today in our coun'.ry ? One thing is very evident; and that is that it is not measuring up to its great opportunity. The evangelistic fires have gone low, and souls are not being saved in our churches as they should. There are 28,000 Baptist churches in the South, and of these 7,000 or one-fourth did not report one single baptism in 1928. Why art there no more old time revivals in our churches as in the days of our fore fathers? The reason is that sin, dis honesty, stealing, robbery, adultery. Sabbath breaking, gossip, garbage carriers) worldineds has crept in through unregenerated church memb ers. Too many of our churches are religious ice houses, instead of live, Holy Ghost, Pentecostal, power houses There is. no discipline in our churches today. One member is afraid to dis cipline another as he is guilty of doing 1 the same thing or something else that .he would discipline his fellow member. It's a case of the pot calling the ket tle black. In some of our c lurches' the mid week prayer mee'. ing has gone out as there are not enouph members who attend to keep it going. In one of our neighboring towns where there are four churches they can't get e nough church members, (Chris' ians ) together to have Sunday evening ser vices. Religion iB on the decline when there are not more than a hand-ful of church members at an evening service. Not more than one-third of the mem bers of .our churches support the church and the Kingdom interests. If a list of the names of the church members who won't give anything to our churches, were given to the news papers there would not be room for anythin/i else to be printed the day this list was printed. It would be an eye opener to see the names of people who ride in good cars, wear good clothes, and have radios,, and all the luxuries of life, yet give nothing to God, though they ca'l themselves fol lowers of Ills dear Son. When the judgment day comcjs it will be more than an eye opener, it will be a life opener, and some will be mighty poor at that hour. Why all this indifferent, uncon cern, legarlhy, apathy, in regard to the churches of the Lord Jesus Christ? The answer is that it is a sign of the Coming of the I^ord. Ho told us that tho lovo of many would wax cold. K'a a sign, and the sign is everywhere. . Recently General Porshing gave n statement to the press of the need of tho Ix>rd'a people rallying to the cause. Here Is his statement: "The strength of obligation of citizonship is dependent Upon the teaching of Chris tianity. That is the bulwark of our whole governmental structure. Draw ing upon his World War experlneces the General told of seeing upon the walls of Verdun citadel, Petaln's fam ous phrase: "They shall not pass.' Christianity is oh the defensive, he raid. "I fear that wo are unprepared at present to withstand the onslaught ' v , " I lour lines without delay, are increasingly dangerous, and we must unite in our tefforts, end -we must polish up our armour and defend our selves with all our might.
