In case hay or other food stuffs are stored above the barn the ceiling shall be tight. (5) FLOORS? Floors and gutters I all dairy barns shall be constructed of concrete or other impervious and easily cleaned material approved by the health officer and shall be graded to drain properly, and shall be kept .lean and in good repair. (C) COW XARI) ? All cow yards shall be graded and drained as well as practicable, and kept clean. (7) MANURE DISPOSAL ? All manure shall be removed and stored or disposed of in such manner as to best prevent the breeding of flies herein. MILK HOUSE OR ROOM? (8) Construction ? There shall be provided a separate milk house or room for the handling and storage or milk, provided with a tight floor construct v-d of cement or other impervious ma terial and graded to provide proper drainage.. The walls and ceiling of the milk house or room shall be of such construction as to permit easy (leaning and shall be painted at least once each year or finished in a manner approved by the health officer. The milk house shall be well lighted and all openings effectively scre. md to prevent the entrance of flies, and shall be used for no other purpose than the handling and stor age of milk or mi'.k products and other operations incident thereto. Th cleaning an ! other operations shall be so located and conducted as to prevnt any contamination from on. io the other. The milk room shall not open directly into the barn or into any room used for sleeping or domestic purposes. (!?) (Ill WATER SUPPLY?' The wa ter supply shall be easily accessible "donate- and of safe, sjfiytary qual ity. (12) UTENSILS, Construction ? All tniners and other utensils used in the handling or storage ?.f milk or milk: products mu?t be of such construction as to b'.' easily cleaned and must be in good repair, doints and seams must be soldered rush. All milk pails shall be of a narrow mouth de sign approved by the health officer. (13) CLEANING ? All container^ md other utensils us- d in the hand ling and storing or transportation of milk and milk products must be thor oughly cleaned by rinsing with clear water after each usage, scrubbing in an alkaline solution, and rinsing with clean Water. Ml) STERILIZATION? All con tainers and other utensils usedin the*4 handling, storage, or transportation of milk or milk products shall be tween each usage be sterilized with steam. (1;>) STORAGE ? All containers end other utensils used in the hand ling, storage, or transportation of milk or milk products shall be stored so as not to become contaminated un til again used. (16) II A NDLINCV ? After steriliza tion no container or other milk or milk product utensil shall be handled in such a manner as to permit any part of the person or clothing to come in contact with any surface with which milk or milk products shall come in contact. (17) MII/KING-Uildcrs and Teats ? I he U' ders and teats of all milking cows shall be clean and sponged with , a disinfectant immediately before milking. (18) FLANKS ? The flanks of all milking cows shall be kept free of; all visible dirt at the time of milking. (10) MILKERS HANDS? Milkers hands shall be cleaned, rinsed with a disinfectant and dried with a clean towel immediately before milking. Should the milking operation be in terrupted, the milkers hands must be l edi -infected. Wet hand milking is prohibited. ( 20 ) CI ,E AN CI .Or MING ?Milker* shall wear clean outer garments dur ing milking. (21) MILK STOOLS ? Milk stools shall be kept clean. (22) REMOVAL OF MILK? Each pail of milk shall be removed im mediately to the milk house. No milk shall be strained in the dairv barn. (23) COOLING? Milk must bp cooled within one hour after milking to HO '' ^grees Farenhc it or less and maintained at or below that temper ature until delivery. (2-1) BOTTLING AND CAPPING ?Capping shall preferably b> done by machine. In case capping is done bv hand, the hands shall be disin fected in a manner approved by the health offic r before the process of capping is begun and after each jn ("nuption. Caps not purchased in sanitary containers and kept therein until used shall be kept. in dust proof containers and shall be immersed in an approved disinfectant solution im mediately before use. The demands of the world for rubber through products that are in dispensable to our present mode of living, require 371.000 long tons of the crude product to fill each year, according to material survey engin eers of The B. F. Goodrich Rubber Company, Akron, Ohio. Since rubber must be taken from certain tropical trees in the form of latex, which is more than sixty per cent water, it takes 332 1-2 million gallons of the milky fluid to produce the tonnage required to supply the rubber manufacturing industry just in America. The rubber latex or milk is not an emulsion as is commonly supposed, but a fluid in which, Goodrich chem ists say, are suspended microscopic particles of solid rubber matter. These particles are so numerous and their powers of adhesion are so great that one gallon of this white rublur tree sap contains enough of the rub ber globules to form a minute thread 372 miles long. On the rubber plantation the tree milk or latex is treated with a di lute acid solution as soon as it is brought in by the tappers. The acid serves to dissolve the properties which hold the rubber particles sus pi ndod in the fluid. This brings the rubber to the surface where it can In skimmed off just as cream is skimmed off of cow's milk. The value of the plantation rubber to the industry has been tremendous. Scientific care of plantations and ex tensive study of methods for hand ling the latex have produced a de pendable rubber which, Goodrich en gineers say, has beer, a vital factor in improving automobile tire qual ity. Compounding of rubber and pigments is done with the assurance that a more uniform service will re sult from the product. The planting and cultivating of rubber trees has kept pace with the demand for its product. Today there are more than four million acres of rubber trees under icultivation %n various far-east tropical countries ind from these sources come practic ally 1)7 per cent of the crude rubber used in the manufacture of tires and other rubber products.
