H Sowcdl at the home of her neice, Mrs. James Covington, of- Bennettksviljlo yesterday was received in Camden with a.inceie sorrow. Her death came -uddeniy. I heart failure being: given as the cause. | For many years Camden had been the home of this estimable lady. Mrs. | Sowell had reached quite an advanced age, beiug about 75 years at the time of her death. Before her marriage she was Mis Dora Bradley. She married Mr. Mendel Lafayette Sniitr, who predeceased her many years age. By this marriage three sons and a daughter survive her, Judge Mendel L. Smith, of Camden" \V. F. Smith, of Sumter, Mr. S'd Smith, of Shrove-1 port, La., and Mrs. J. B Holley, of Florida. Later she married Rev \V j H Sowell, and by this union one son1 was born who died in early childhood. Last fall Mi's. Sowell accompanied her daughter-in-law Mrs. Sid Smith,-: io Shreveport. driving through tlw country in a car. Several months ago she came to Bennettsv i'.le, and Was with her niece there when the i summons came that called her away from this life. Mrs. Sowell was a .ady of 'unusual c.ifts. As a business woman she had few equal . Firm in her convictions of what was riirht, sh^. was un-werving in her devotion *o duty. K ind-hearted and generous, many were the acts of kindness per formed l<y her. She had an abiding .aith in }-.?_? r friends and a devotion to ;he l.o.-t interests of her home unsur r.s ed by any one. When she left Jamden last fall to visit her son she was i:i such fine spirits, and it a sad thought to her friends at home that hey will never see her kindly face a gain. In her death our community has sustained a great los-. The retrains will be braught r. At the lend of the second inning the score ' stood G to 8 in favor of Bethune, when j Camden got the lead again and up to the ninth inning the outlook was rath i er gloomy for the home hopes. How ever, owing to the heavy slugging of True dale, King, I 'ate and Smith, the | locals finally won out in the last in ' ning. Some of the visitors were 1 heard to remark that it was regrett j able that the Bethune bunch did nut : have more practice, etc. In a sense this might be true, but we confess that although some of the Bethune high school ball players are a little under sized, they are a live, husky ret of youngsters and can make it real in teresting for any high school team in this seition. The result of this game indicated that the Bethune boys, must ik.w had considerable j>ract.ce. or hi r Camden was a little "off" in . i i practice part herself.
