Quick Explain the IncMmi and What Led to IL i (Political Advertisement) | On the night of July 14, 1914, at Pagelaud, S. 0., the candidates for i Congress, W. F. Stevenson and D. A Flnley spoke. Mr. Stevenson opened and Mr. Flnley closed and Mr. Steven son exercised the right, assumed by Mt' Flnley at Chesterfield, of replying. : When he did so Mr. Flnley replied to him and as he turned to sit down he I said to Mr. Stevenson, "Too can't ' throw off on me." Mr. Stevenson said j "How?" He had not made any per* , sonal remarks to Mr. Flnley and only . replied to what he said appeared to be an insinuation made by Mr. Flnley and had corrected Mr. Flnley In reply to questions addressed to him by Mr. Fln ley. When Flnley replied, "I will just hurt you." Mr. Stevenson said, "Hurt me, old man, hurt me?" | The chairman had announced the meeting adjourned and as Mr. Steven son turned to pick up his papers Mr. Flnley hit him behind the right ear. After Mr. Stevenson recovered from the lick he approached Mr. Flnley and ap , pea red about to engage In the difficulty but he was pulled off the stand by T. W. Belle, stated to htm that he wanted to prevent any difficulty. The Incident was entirely unexpect ed and without any apparent cause as the debate was being conducted along parliamentary lines and the apparent heat of Mr. Flnley was not understood by Mr. Stevenson apparently or by the audience. W. F. STEVENSON. To the best of my knowledge the above Is a correct statement but I. don't know what Mr. Stevenson was doing when Mr. Flnley struck him. JOHN W. QUICK, Chairman of Meeting.
