I There is one class of toilers that we have the utmost respect and , go^d will for, and that is the fural mail carriers, They go out and come in day^ tiy day, apparently without thinking of the real value of their service to the people along their routes. And now that we have the parcel post, this service has become ail the more important, and likewise the rural carriers They can truly be classed among the world's wjrkers, and the good they accomplish cannot be comput-) ed. We never hear of an effort that is being made to further improve the sesvice, and to increase the pay of 1 hese tireless toilers but what we say amen to it. The system has been in operation only a few years, but during that time it has been thoroughly demonstrated that it was a fine system to establish, and wha' impresses us is the fact that so man> of the rural carriers seem to have a keen desire to cooperate with the government in making it better as time goes by. If we are right in what we say, vV.nd we feel sure that we are, then 4he -citizens who art served by this of men should cooperate with them and aid them in every wa> possible. But there are many other busy men who have but little time to "putter about," and In order to use their spare time to the beat effect their wives ought to have ready a list of jobs to be done whenever they are ready to do them. It is rather a satisfaction to a man than otherwlae to dispose of a lot of odd jobs at one fell swoop on some rainy Saturday afternoon, or when he hhs unexpected leisure. Philadelphia Public Ledger. Last Words of an Eminent Lawgiver. "Since we were deprived of our office people have been makln' a foot* ball of the law in our former baili wick," writes an ex-Justice of the peace. An old congressman, who made no pretensions about Latin, when dining with the secretary said he supposed the words meant "Victuals, not talk." One of the really pathetic things which all who attend public dlnnera must suffer Is the sad, the often la mentably sad, attempts on the part of speakers to be funny. "I am remind* ed of an Irishman," says one, and then comes a story dragged In by the heels, or "I feel like the Dutchman," and out flows a venerable yarn maybe slightly pressed for the occasion like the speaker's own dress suit. "I cannot see why It is thought neo essary for after dinner talkers to try to be funny," remarks a writer In the Philadelphia Ledger. "Victuals, not talk," would be a first rate motto to have upon most publio dinner plates.
