Tuesday night about 9:30 the
residence of Mr. Winfred Belk, just
, on the skirts of the city, was totally
destroyed liy fire. Very little of the
1 household goods was saved-tlie flames
1 having gained such headway before
being discovered. Mr. and Mrs. Belk
were asleep and were awakened by
f the cries of the lieople rushing to the
tin. This house was built a few years
. ago by Mr. Peters and was a handsome
eonvelent home. We understand
: that Mr. Belk had only a small amount
of insurance 011 the building and none
on the household goods.

early risers Monday morning and it

match, and the weather man offers
slight consolation, either, if cold
weather ts to be regarded as an evil
for he predicts more of it to come.
The storm that was hovering aronud
J New Mexico departedj Saturday for
other parts. That night it moved
swiftly eastward over the Gulf States.
- Sundayed with heavy rains over the
South Atlantic States and spent yesterday
as the unwelcome guest of the
inhabitants of New England. Low
temperatures prevailed Monday
throughout the Western and Central
States. The temperature here was
'snappy but not disagreeable to those
who are prepared for it.

VERY SUDDENLY
Magistrate at Olympia Passed Away
Yesterday at His Residence

very suddenly yesterday afternoon
about o'clock at his residence,
1401 Lower street. He was serving
his second term as magistrate. He
was OS years of age. Members of the
Columbia bar who practiced in his
court held him in high regard
For the last few days Magistrate
Fosterling had been unwell but none
of his family considered him seriously
ill and he was able to attend to the
duties of his office yesterday. His
death yesterday afternoon was a great
shock to his family and friends in Olypia
and in Columbia.
Magistrate Easterling was a native
of Marlboro county. For a time he was
deputy sheriff of Marlboro. He was
twice elected magistrate Olympia.
The meml)ers of his immediate fomily
who survive him are: His wife
