Why not take this matter up ana mane it one of the improvements for accomplishment for the New Year? One of our leading exchanges says: "About the first thing any town should do is to see 'hat that its public walkways are put in proper shape and made safe, if not attractive, for pedestirians to traverse." One of the first things! And just think, Cheraw is one of the oldest towns in South Carolina! Among the appropriations recommended by the secretary of the treasury is $10,000 for Pee Dee river. We think the money ought to be expended in building dams to protect the river lowlands from overflowing instead of digging dirt out of the botI torn of the river. That close merchant who was I caught catching the flies out of his sugar barrel and dusting their feet to keep them from carrying his sugar away, was sure "some" stingy, but the fellow who is too stingy to pay less than two cents per week for his town paper has that merchant beat to a frazzle. And there are several of them right here in Cheraw. t V4 The suggestion of The Chronicle that an invitation be extended to the L County Trustees Association to hold its next meeting in Cheraw, was j^^piroraptly 'taken 1 ^^^Bpruill, who extended, in behalf of f the town, the invitation, which was uhanimously accepted, and therefore the next meeting of the Association will be held in Cheraw some time in February. There is no doubt that Cheraw will do her part in enterthis -Association. The board bf jtrade, of CheraW. cooperating with the trustees of the Cheraw graded school, has tendered to the teachers of Chesterfield county a most cordial invitation to hold their next meeting here. This meeting k will take place on Saturday, Dec. 13, f *nd it is earnestly hoped that every } teacher in the county will be present, f Cheraw is in hearty sympathy with the teachers of the county in their work in the public schools and extends to each one a warm welcome. He has also all j kinds of farm furnishings and bug-' gies and mules and horses. No. 2. 1 believe that No. 2 is Mr. R. Mcl. Watts, who is running a complete line of staple and fancy groceries. No. 3. I believe No. 3 is the Cheravv Drug CcL "The Little Drug Store Around the Corner." This is one of the best drug stores in Cheraw. No. 4. I believe that No. 4 is the Maynard-Raley Realty and Trust Co., the ones that give you a square deal in land and real estate. No. 5. I think No. 3 is the Cheraw Auto and Bicycle Shop, L. G. Lowery, proprietor. He does all kinds of repair work?both bicycle and auto and sells all kinds of supplies. Frank, therefore, wins the ?3. and no doubt he will be around after it soon after reading this in The Chronicle.
