\ 1 i 8-A—THE CHRONICLE, Clinton, S. C., May 21, 1970 Mrs. Holcombe Mrs. Bertie Starnes Hol combe, 66, of 24 Lakewood Drive, widow of E. T. Holcombe, died Saturday. She was a resident of Char- leston for 40 years before mov ing to Clinton about a year ago. She was a daughter of the late M. Lee and Nannie Cox Starnes. She was a registered nurse and a graduate of Roper Hospital School of Nursing, where she worked in the hospital 30 years. She was a member of St.John’s Episcopal Church. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Roof and Mrs. Lona Mae Holtzclaw of Clinton and Mrs. Gracie Barnett of Lau rens; and five brothers, Will iam Starnes of Clinton, Claude Starnes of Laurens, Lawrence Starnes of Augusta, Ga. Chal mers Starnes of Smyrna and Er nest Starnes of Morrow, Ga. Funeral services were held Monday at Gray Funeral Home. Burial was in Lathem Family Plot in Berea Section, Pickens County. J. T. Gaskin JOANNA - John Tilton Gas kin, 92, of 307 Laurens St., died Thursday in Clinton. He was a native of Westville, but had spent most of his life in Joanna. He was a son of Joseph Burrell and Lucy Coates Gaskin. He was a retired tex tile worker at Joanna Mills and a member of the Woodmen of the World and the Old Timers Club. He was a Methodist minis ter and a member of Epworth Methodist Church, where he taught the John Gaskin Men’s Bible Class 35 years. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jeanette Crocker Gaskin; two sons, John W. Gaskin of Fort Mill and Hugh Boyd Baskin of Clinton; three daughters, Mrs. Jessie Mae Prater, Mrs. Nao mi Wier and Mrs. Jeanette Farmer of Joanna; a sis ter, Mrs. E. D. Murphy of Co lumbia; and 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday at Epworth Methodist Church with burial inRosemont Cemetery. Mrs. Hutt Mrs. Gonzell Fant Hutt, 49, died Friday at Baltimore, Md. A native of Laurens County, she was the daughter of Mrs. Addie C. Fant of Clinton and the late Benjamin Fant and was a member of Mt. PleasantAME Church. Surviving also are two daugh ters, Miss Marcia Hutt and Miss Melanda Hutt of the home; four sisters, Mrs. Othelma Fant Floyd of Clinton, Mrs. Elperry Wheston, Mrs. Jeanette Bell and Miss Ernestine Fant of Phila delphia, Pa.; and a brother, Benjamin Fant of Clinton. Funeral services were held Wednesday atMt. PleasantAME Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. The South Carolina textile industry had 99,708 active spindles spinning worsted yarns in 1968, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. Mrs. Gilbert LAURENS - Mrs. Inez Harris Gilbert, 59, of 512 Conway Ave., died Sunday. She was a sister of Gardner Harris of Kinards. Other survivors include her husband, three daughters, two sons, two sisters, another bro ther, 13 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. CUSTOMERS...
