C., May 21, 1970—3-B Legal Notice FINAL SETTLEMENT Take notice that on the End day of June, 1970, I will render a final account of my acts and doings as Executrix of the es tate of Joel Brunson Robinson in the office of the Judge of Pro bate of Laurens County, at 10 o’clock A.M., and on the same day will apply for a final dis- Porson Jones Says Laughing Is Good Psychology Dear Mr. Publisher: I got out of the hospital yes terday. Doc said I was feeling better, and he oughta know. He reminded me to keep my mind off my troubles, and then hand ed me his bill for $250. I’ve been trying to follow his ad vice and not take life so ser ious. My Doc allowed as how laughing at troubles is a lot better than fretting over ’em. At first I thought this ap proach to problems would be kinda sacreligious, but now I ain’t too sure. I was reading in the Good Book the other day where God gets kinda tickled at man’s stupidity. In Psalm 2, after talking about man’s wick edness, it says “He who sits in the Heavens shall laugh.” I reckon the reasoning behind this is that when a monkey acts like a monkey it’s funny, but when a man acts like a mon key it's down-right hilarious. I suppose this approach is just plain good psychology too. You take T.V. for instance - when the news got so bad nobody could stand it anymore they come up with programs like “Laugh-in”. That's where they give the news and everybody laughs about it. Cartoons have been doing the same thing for years. Maybe that’s why more grown-nis are reading the co mic strips these days. You know, maybe if I used this approach in my sermons more people would get the mes sage. I could talk about all the sins my folks are indulging w, and then break- up and laugh like crazy. This would at least wake some of the folks up that sleep all the time. Weil, be that what it will, I gotta start taking it easy. If I could just do like my ole dog, Spot, and go to sleep in the shade when things get tough I would be alright. At least sleeping dogs stay outa trouble. Be good and write when you can. Laughingly yours, Parson Jones. Spicz POTATO SHRIMP SALAD 1 quart cooked potatoes, finely cut and salted IVfc teaspoons prepared mustard 14 tablespoons mild vinegar 1 medium-sized onion, chopped 1 can shrimp, cleaned 1 cup celery, finely cut 4 hard-boiled eggs, chopped Mix together potatoes, mustard, vinegar, onion and let stand for three hours. It and the month pre- ceeding are crowded with wed dings each year. With this in mind, each year we devote a number of Everyday Counselor columns to certain vital facts concerning marriage as an ins titution. First, we reprint below our Ten Commandments for a Happy Marriage which have had wide distribution over the years. 1. Thou shalt not marry in haste or thou mayest repent in leisure. 2. Thou shalt have a home of thine own no matter how small. By your marriage you transfer your allegiance from your fat her’s house to your own. Keep it there and save trouble. 3. Thou shalt make a family budget and live up to it. 4. Thou shalt observe birth days and anniversaries. They are the windows to a home. Continue courting and you will stay out of court. 5. Thou shalt practice thy religion at home. If it won’t work there, there is something wrong with the religion or with you. Find out. Look for the best in life - not the worst. Show appreciation for the vir tues of others and try to over look the faults. 6. Thou shalt watch the lit tle things - sharp words, an noying habits. One match will start a fire. 7. Thou shalt have a family altar. If you are too busy to read the Bible and pray daily, you are busier than the Lord ever intended you to be and too busy for your own good. 8. Thou shalt serve the Lord in His church. You would not live in a city without churches. If you want the benefits, be willing to share the responsi bilities. 9. Thou shalt have suitable recreations with friends of thine own age and station. Keep ing up with the Joneses makes trouble. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, but all play and no work la just at bad. (■%*» 10. Thou shalt regard thy children as among God’s great est gifts. Treat them as such. 11. Finally, and most impor tant, the commandment of Jesus “A new commandment I give to you, that ye love one another ”.
