A NEEDLE PRESSBOARD is
an invaluable aid when you are
sewing with pile or nap fabric
little like cotton velvet and vel
veteen, velour, corduroy, cotton
suede, and cotton-backed fake
fur. Pressboard are studded with
needles set in a pliable mat back
ing. To use, put the right side
of the fabric to be pressed down
i»n the needles. Press the wrong
side of the fabric lightly, lift
ing the iron and placing it on a
different spot each time.
POULTRY MITES - If drop in
egg production is unaccounted for
check for mites. Small flocks dust
birds with 5 r ( Sevin. Large flocks
spray with SOC wettable Sevtn.
(Pick a warm day). Ridding the
poultry house of wild birds will
reduce re infestation.
TO KEEP FLOUR SIFTER
SANITARY, soak it in cold water,
wash clean in warm suds, and

STRAWBERRIES - Now is the
time to fertilize strawberries.
Use 600 to 800 lbs. of 8-8-8 or
10-10-10 fertilizer per acre or
two lbs. per 100 running feet. If
you do not have strawberries
now is the time to plant. Call
County Extension Office for re
commended varieties.
OLD NYLON STOCKINGS,
laundered in hot suds, make soft
washable “innards" for stuffed
dolls, animals, and TV pillows.
These, in turn, can pi into the
washer as needed.
CATTLE LICE - If your catUe
have hair rubbed off, the chances
are they have lice. Call County
Extension Office for specific re
commendations.
EXTREMELY HOT soap or de
tergent suds will help to keep sil
ver as shiny as a jewelry store
window. Little if any polishing is
necessary for silver that’s used
every day, and washed regularly
in hot suds. A scalding hot rinse
makes silver dry faster, and
speeds up the final buffing with
a soft dry cloth.

Do not use a blowtorch to
thaw frozen pipes. Rapid
thawing may cause pipes to
burst. Heat them slowly,
using a hair dryer, heat
lamp, heating cable or light
bulbs. Move the heat along
the pipe, working near the
faucet, which is kept open to
allow water to flow out as
ice melts.
