Lee Chapter of the U.D.C. held their annual meeting at the home of Mrs. M. C. Poole on Maple St. The meeting opened with pray er by the Chaplin, Mrs. Frank Miller. Then the ritual and sa lute to the flag were said. Mrs. Perry Moore presided in the absence of the president, Miss Louise Kern, who was ill. A card signed by each member was to be sent to Mrs. Kern. An interesting program was given by Miss June Adair on Arkansas during the Confed eracy. The Red Letter Days: Ro bert E. William Harris of Belton announce the birth of a daughter, Heather Lynn, on Jan. 7 at Anderson Memorial HospitaL The Harrises have another daughter, Julianne Greigh, four years old. Mrs. Harris is the former Linda Jo Corley of Clinton and is a graduate of Clinton HighSchool. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe D. Corley live at 307 Caldwell Street in Clinton. Copeland-Gerron Mr. and Mrs. Posey Watts Copeland announce the engage ment of their daughter, Sally Caroline to Mr. William John Gerron Jr., son of Mrs. Gerron of Austin, Texas, and the late Mr. Gerron. The wedding is plan ned for April 4. Miss Copeland was graduated from the University of Georgia. She was presented at the 1966 Debutante Ball, and has been employed as a Delta Air Lines Stewardess. Mrs. S.T. Plowden will speak on “Organic Gardening.” Carolina Wren Club To Meet The Carolina Wren Garden Club will meet Monday, Jan. 26 at 3:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Platt Prather. Miss Susan Harmon Weds Lf. Austin Miss Janis Susan Harmon and Lt. David Crichton Austin were married on Saturday, January 17 at 7 p.m. at the First Presby terian Church. Rev. Alfred L. Bixler conducted the ceremony. A reception was given in the so cial hall of the church. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white silk organza over taffeta, appliqued in motifs of peau d’ ange lace and encrusted with seed pearls. Bell sleeves compliment ed the A-line design of the dress. The train, which was appliqued with the same lace, fell from the shoulders. Her veil was held in place with a cluster of organza rosebuds and lace leaves en crusted with pearls and crystals. She carried a cascade of white starburst centered with an or chid. Her only ornament was a single strand of graduated pearls given her by the groom. Lt. Austin received a B.A. degree in economics from Pres byterian College where he served as treasurer and president of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity and was a member of Scabbard and Blade. He was employed in Greenville at First Piedmont Bank and Trust Co. before entering military ser vice. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Stanley Austin of 103 Chesterfield Road in Green ville. Also educated at Presbyterian College, the bride was presented at the debutante ball of Clinton Cotillion Club in 1968. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Calvin Harmon of Pinewood Ave. The groom’s father was best man. John C. Harmon Jr. of Taylors, brother of the bride, was among the ushers. His wife was matron of honor. Brides maids were the groom’s sister, Miss Jean and Miss Judith Aus tin, both of Greenville; Miss Donna Brannon of Joanna; and Miss Teresa Hogan. The maid of honor and brides maids wore gowns of silk blend material in a coral color, fea turing a scoop neckline and tea cup sleeves. A panel fell from a back bow. The sleeves and em pire waist were enhanced with a white daisy trim. They carried nosegays of daisies and baker’s fern with moss ribbons. Also ushering were John Fred erick Oliver of Atlanta, Danny Ray Brown of Columbia, and the groom’s brothers, Alan and Ron ald Austin of Greenville. Mrs. James Von Hollen pro vided organ music. The couple will live at Ft. Polk, La., after a wedding trip in the mountains of North Caro lina and Tennessee. Out of town guests included, Mrs. Callie Simpson, the bride’s paternal grandmother of Redondo Beach, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Wal ter Thompson of Chester and Mrs. Curtis Griffin ofNewberry. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Donald Pitts announce the birth of a son, David Arthur, on Sunday, Jan. 18, at Bailey Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Pitts is the former Shirley Bodie, daughter of Mrs. F. A. Bodie and the late Hr. Bodie. The paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Pitts. Here Mrs. Stinnett unfolded plans for a Spring Fashion Show Tea to be held March 5 at the Mary Musgrove Hotel with pro ceeds going toward the Clinton beautification plans now in pro gress. Chairmen for the occasion will be Mrs. Henry Cronic and Mrs. Stinnett. Working with them will be Mrs. Marion Lawson, canvasing chairman. Fashion co- ordinaters wiU be the presidents of the three participating Garden Clubs, Mrs. Joel Cox, Carolina Wren Club, Mrs. Sidney Bond, Iris Club and Mrs. Nelson Dow, Yellow Jessamine Club. Publicity will be arranged by Mrs. Judson Bremher. Mrs. E. E. Cox will be ticket chairman and Mrs. Gary Holcombe will supervise the decorations. Miss Basnight Weds Former Clintonian Miss Shelia Susan Basnight of Wilmington, N. C. became the bride of Mr. George Gilbreath Huguley, also of Wilmington and formerly of Clinton. The noon time wedding took place at the Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church in Wilmington on Dec. 31. Dr. B. Frank Hall, officiated. A reception was given at the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity House im mediately following the cere mony. The bride wore an original de sign of slipper satin, with a lace mantilla from Mexico. Sister of the groom, Miss Re becca Jean Huguley, maid of honor, was attired in a street length green velvet dress of prin cess design and matching tulle headpiece. She carried a bou quet of small poinsettias. Mr. Robert Hamer of Atlanta, Ga., served as best man. Ushers were Robert Eugene Prince, Philip Knox Galloway, James Carter and William Dalton all of Wilmington. Harris Walker pro vided the organ music. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Roy Basnight of Manteo, N. C. is a graduate of Manteo High School and East Carolina College with an AB de gree in drama and speech. She is now traffic manager of WMF D Radio in Wilmington. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Murphy Huguley of Clinton. He attended Wofford College and is now attending Wil mington College where he is a member of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. He is employed in the electronics department of Piedmont Airline in Wilmington. Robert Cox, ce lebrated her sixth birthday Wed nesday at kindergarten and at home Thursday with a few little friends who enjoyed games, a pink elephant birthday cake, ice cream, colas, candy and favors. Carol Young, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, H. M. Young Jr., 606 Cedar Street, student at King’s College, Charlotte, N.C. was a member of the House Council of Kirkpatrick Hall, one of the girls’ dormitories on the campus dur ing the fall quarter. She served as a monitor. Mr. and Mrs. J. Robert Cox attended Firestone Spring Dealer Show in Atlanta. Mr. Cox was presented a watch for 22 years as a Firestone dealership. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Anderson Kim and Luann of Pendleton visit ed her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Edwins. Rev. and Mrs. W. E. Edwin of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., spent several days with Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Edwins. H. L. Sparks, brother of Mrs. B. D. Smith of Clinton, died un expectedly Tuesday, Jan. 13, in an Atlanta, Ga., hospital following an accident on Sunday, Jan. 11. Fun eral services were conducted «i Thursday, Jan. 15. Surviving in addition to Mrs. Smith, are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Sparks of Atlanta, a daughter, Mrs. Don Jones of Hollywood, Fla., and a brother, Mr. H. C. Sparks Jr., of Mable- ton, Ga.
