C. Rev. Alvin F. Boone,Sr. father of the groom, performed the 3 o-'clock ceremony. A reception Wts given in the church social tell. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Bankhead of Route 1, Blackstock. Escorted by her father, she wore a gown of silk organza designed with a chapel length train. It was appliqued with lace and embroidered with seed pearls. The gown and veil were designed by her grandmother, Mrs. W. W. Bankhead. Beer, ofRichbourg, sis ter of the bride, was lovely in a full length gown of American beauty red. Her bouquet matched the color of the gown. Miss Virginia Bowles present ed a prelude of wedding music. Miss Barbara Allen of Laurens was soloist and Miss Mary Ann Phillips was pianist. Bestman was Allen L. Beer of Richbour. Ushers were Mr. Wyatt T. Saunders of Laurens and Mr. Johnny Ballard of Fort Mill. The bride is a graduate of Winthrop College. The groom, who is veteran of the Vietnam War is attending Presbyterian College. He is the son of Rev. and Mrs. Alvin F. Boone, Sr. of 14 Lucas Ave., Laurens. People You Know Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Fin- cannon and children, Dana and Keith of Whiteville, N. C., ar rived Tuesday to spend the holi days with Mrs. Fincannon’s par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Mc Daniel. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Nichols spent Saturday at Clemson with their daughter, Mrs. Burrell Richardson and Mr. Richardson. Major and Mrs. Richard Luk- stat and children of Annandale, Va., arrived this week for the holidays with her mother, Mrs. H. D. Payne. Announcement Party Given Mr. and Mrs. James Robert Cox of Chappells Highway for mally announced the engagement of their daughter, Kayran Leary on Sunday afternoon with a drop- in from two until five o’clock. The entrance hall was decorat ed in gold and silver, the Christ mas tree being silver and trim med with gold ornaments. The same color scheme was carried out in the living and dining rooms. On the front doors and in the other party rooms, the traditional colors of green and red were used with live holly from the grandfather’s garden in Green wood. Each of the children’s bed rooms were decorated in the color schemes of their choice. Mr. and Mrs. Cox greeted guests at the door and introduced them to the bride-elect and her fiance, John Isham Moore Jr. He, in turn introduced them to his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Rupert Leary pinned the favors of flowers and swords on each guest. Mrs. George Cornelson served the punch and Mrs. Reese Young in vited guests into the diningroom. Mrs. Hugh Jacobs was in the hall to show each one into the den and game room. Mrs. Julius Leary and Mrs. William Buchanan assisted in the entertaining. Refreshments were served buffet style from the dining room table covered with moss green satin and topped with a lace table cloth. An arrangement of white mums with gold glitter centered the table and white wedding bells hung from the chandelier. Punch with a green bell float ing on top was served with a variety of delicious party food. The bride-elect wore a white wool dress and a corsage of sweetheart roses. The groom- elect wore a gray suit with a boutinere to match Kayran’s cor sage. During the party hours one hundred and seventy-five friends of the couple called. Newcomers Club Decorates Dorm At Whitten Village Several members of the Clin ton Newcomers ClubmetatWnit- ten Village, Saturday morning, Dec. 13, to decorate the cerebal palsy dormitory for whom they sponsor a birthday party each month. The Christmas decorations were made by the club members. S tt ■r •• DISCOUNT HOUSE Cox-Moore Mr. and Mrs. James Robert Cox of Chappells Highway, Clinton, announce the engagement of their daughter, Kayran Leary, to Mr. John Isham Moore Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Moore of 501 Blalock Drive in Joanna. The en gagement was formally an nounced at a drop-in at home on Dec. 21. Kayran is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Linwood Leary of Greenwood and Mr. Geddis Marvin Cox and the late Mrs. Cox of Spartanburg. Johnny is the grandson ofMrs. Thomas Melleshamp Moore and the late Dr. Moore of Rembert, S. C. and of Mrs. Willie Erskine Adams and the late Mr. Adams of Columbia. Kayran is a 1967 graduate of Clinton High School where she was valedictorian and editor of the paper “The Sentinel.” Also she was a member of the National Honor Society, Chem-Bi-Phi Club and received the Phi Beta Kappa Award. She was a state representative to the National Conservation Council at the White House in Washington in 1966. . Kayran will graduate from Co lumbia College in May and enter graduate school the fall of 1970. Kayran was treasurer of the Freshman Class of Columbia College and a member of the Activities Council. Also a member of the Academic Council since her freshman year. Due to her academic rating, she was named a college marshall for each year. Being a math major, she is a member of Chi Beta Phi, an ho norary science fraternity. Kay ran has been listed on the Dean ’s List each term and is therefore a member of the Purple Seal, the honorary academic fra ternity. Johnny was a 1966 graduate of Clinton High where he was vice president of the student body and sports editor of the “Sentinel.” He was a member of the Nat ional Honor Society and vice pre sident of the Key Club. Johnny will graduate from the Citadel in May. He, too, is to enter graduate school in the fall. Johnny holds the rank of Cadet Lieutenant Colonel in the South Carolina Corps of Cadets at the Citadel, and serves as command er of the second battalion; he was designated as a Distinguished Military Student at the beginning of this school year. He is a member of the 1970 Junior Sword Drill and the Summerall Guards, the precision drill teams of the Citadel. For the past two years, he has served on the Presiden tial Advisory Council. Johnny has also made the Dean’s List every year. Recently, he was chosen to be listed in “Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Univer sities.” The wedding is planned for June 6, at the First Baptist Church of Clinton. Trammells Have Pre-Christmas Dinner Party On Sunday the family of the late Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Tram mell gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Grady Smith and Mr. Roy Trammell for their an nual Christmas get-to-gether. Sill, Okla., is home on leave. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Patterson. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Burnett Sr. will spend Christmas Day in Columbia with their son, Charles Burnett, Mrs. Burnett and family. Machinist William E. Bigbee, who was stationed aboard the USS Canberra before it was decom missioned, is spending a leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Bigbee on N. Owens Street Following a seven day stay he will report to the USS Ramsey DEG2 for a second tour in Viet nam. Mr. and Mrs. Mac Finney and Johnny of Marion spent the week end with his mother, Mrs. John W. Finney and other relatives. Miss Margaret Kent Bell of Asheville, N. Dr. William Mc Leod Frampton, Sr. of Orange burg and Rev. Robert J. Blumer of Union, pastor of the bride, performed the ceremony at 8 o’clock on Dec. 20. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Benjamin Hill, Sr. of Cross Hill. She re ceived a B.S. degree from Win throp College and a Masters in Education from Western Carolina University. She is a member of the Union High School faculty. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Hitt of 214 Pine Street Extension, Greer. He received a B.A. degree from Er skine College and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Converse College. He is also a member of the Union High School faculty. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a formal gown which was custom designed of peau de soie with a portrait neckline and long sleeves. Gros de lendre lace motifs re-em broidered in seed pearls were used on the empire bodice and bell shaped skirt. A deep bor der of scalloped lace edged the hemline and cathedral train. Her cathedral mantilla of silk Illu sion had motifs and: a deep iacd border. She carried a cascade of white rose buds centered with a white orchid. Matron of honor, Mrs. Walter Sprouse of Gaffney, wore a floor length gown of royal blue velvet with high scoop neckline and long sleeves. Satin ribbons laced through the empire waistline and formed a front bow and long streamers. The satin ribbon was repeated at the cuffline. Her bouf fant veil of silk illusion was at tached to a petal headdress of sheer braid leaves. She carried a bouquet of long stemmed red roses. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Joseph Benjamin Hill Jr., sister-in-law of the bride, of Monroeville, Ala., Mrs. Charles Douglas, sister of the groom of Houston, Tex., Mrs. Michael Williams of Green wood, Mrs. Jerry Cox we 11 and Mrs. Colie Dilleshaw of Clinton. Miss Laura Anne Hodge of Lau rens was flower girl. All brides maids wore gowns similar to the matron of honor, as did the flow er girl. Father of the groom, Lawrence Hubert Hitt, was his son’s best man. Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Douglass Salter announce the engagement of their daughter, Barbara Ann to Carter Clarke Hubbard, sod of Mrs. Louis Dexter Hubbard and the late Colonel Hubbard of Fred ericksburg, Va. The wedding wfll be a June event to be held at Saint John’s Episcopal Church, Savannah, Ga. Miss Salter, a graduate of Jen kins High School is now attend ing the University of South Caro lina, Columbia, S. C.
