Thompson of Ander son, member of the first gradua ting class at Presbyterian Col lege is visiting here as the guest of her nephew, W.W. Harris and family. She graduated from Clin ton College (now Presbyterian College) in its first classinl883. The class was composed of three members, Mrs. Thompson (then Miss Rebecca Boozer) Miss Flo rence Jacobs (who married the late W.J. Bailey), and Miss Jessie Copeland (who married the late J.W. He became famous in 1927 because he was the first to fly the Atlantic ALONE—but most people don’t realize that several other men flew the At lantic before Lindbergh. The first airplane flight across the Atlantic was actually made in 1919—8 years before Lind- bergh’s flight—by Commander Albert Read and a crew of 5. Yet, strangely enough, they are largely for gotten today. And, here’s another interesting fact . . . The latest figures compiled show that there are just over 200 million cars, trucks and buses in operation in the world today. Of this total, 95Cj million are In the United States. That figures just about one vehicle for each two people in our population.
