C., Nov. 13, 1969—1-B Dear Sally BY SALLY SHAW DEAR SALLY: My husband, al though he’s only 29, was recently compelled to invest in false den tures, and he looks fine in them - WHEN they're in his mouth! The big trouble is, he sits around the house too often without his teeth- claims they’re too hard to get used to, that they don’t fit right, that they hurt. I of course sym pathize with him, but at the same time I can hardly bear to look at him with that sunken-in, gap ing mouth! Ordinarily, he’s a handsome guy -- but without his teeth, ugh! Any suggestions? OFFENDED. DEAR OFFENDED: Try appealing to his vanity. Tell him how handsome he is with his teeth in, and how much it shakes you up to see him without his dentures. Although certainly new dentures do need some getting- used-to, if his teeth don’t fit right and are paining him, the most sensible thing for him to do is consult the dentist who made them and have the proper adjustments made. DEAR SALLY: A good bachelor ,•••••••••••••••••••••• • • • • • • • • ••••••••• friend of my husband’s has been hospitalized for some time, and in order to cheer him up I be gan writing friendly, newsy let ters to him. He seemed to ap preciate this, and began writing to me, too. At first his letters were in the same friendly tone as mine, but now his latest three letters have changed abruptly. He writes that he has always been in love with me, that he's even mure so now, and that he’s sure I feel the same way toward him. Nothing could be farther from the truth! I love my husband deeply, always have, aniaiaojiS wilLMy husband knows, ofTOTlTse, of my correspondence with his buddy, but if he knew of the things his so-called freind is writing to me now, I’m sure he would blow his top. What I’d like to know is whether I should continue wri ting to this man. I do feel sorry for him, and happen to know that I am the only one who ever wri tes to him. JUST A FRIEND. DEAR FRIEND: Write to him and let him know that you love your husband, for now and al ways. Tell him that you like writing and receiving “friendly” letters, but that if he continues writing as he has been lately, you will be forced to discontinue the correspondence. DEAR SALLY: I’m a girl of 18, and very unhappy because the boys don’t go for me. They like me well enough, I know -- but they don’t date me -- and I know it’s because of my figure --- too much figure’ I’m at least 20 to 25 pounds overweight. I’ve tried many times to diet in an effort to shed excess poundage, but invariably after a few pounds have dropped off I succumb to my love of potato chips, choco late malts, pies, cakes, candies, and all the other weight-building goodies. Please, I need help ... BLONDE BLIMP. DEAR BLONDE BLIMP: Nei ther I nor anyone else can help you. This is strictly up to you .. a matter of willpower. Don’t, however, be tempted to starve yourself. Best procedure is to consult your doctor and have him prescribe a good, safe, figure- shrinking diet. Then, by all means, stick with it! NOTE TO IRISH: More often than not, so-called “love at first sight” is just infatuation which in time wears away. True love is something that springs from the seeds of attraction, friend ship, and mutual interests and respect.
