C., Nov. 13, 1969—3-A Newcomers Club Is Active, Growing The NewcomersClub of Clinton has grown from seven to 17 mem bers and is actively involved in many projects, Mrs. Jerry Cox- well told Clinton rotarlans at a luncheon meeting Tuesday. Mrs. Coxwell, the charter pre sident of the 10-month-old club, said the Newcomers Club helps newcomers because "we have a lot in common. A man who moves usually is thrown with peo ple in his work who have common interests but his wife is more limited in her contacts. That’s where the Newcomers Club is such a big help." Since its organization, the local club has sponsored several socials, including game nights, a Hawaiian luau, a dinner party, and a Halloween masquerade party. The club also has a project of assisting the 43 cerebral palsy children in a cottage at Whitten Village, visiting the children re gularly and assisting with birth day parties for them. The club also sponsored a campaign to help victims of Hurricane Camille and staged a bake sale. The club currently is working on a Christmas Bazaar which will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 6 at the Episcopal Parish House and is planning to assist needy families at Thanksgiving. Mrs. Corwell said Mrs. Karen Waller is the current president, “and is doing an outstanding job. ” * * * Legion Aux. Places Wreaths Wreaths were placed on the gates of Rosemont and Presby terian Church cemeteries by the American Legion Auxiliary Tuesday, Veterans Day, in honor of those who died on the battle fields in the service of their coun try. Mrs. R. P. Chapman is chair man of the memorial committee of the Auxiliary. The wreaths were made by Mrs. WilmotShea- iy. Maxine Spivey spent Sunday with them. Shady Grove 4H Club will meet Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 4:15 p.m. at the club house. Each member is encouraged to bring new mem bers. * * * Wofford Alumni To Meet Here The Wofford College Alumni meeting for Laurens-Clinton- Newberry area will be held Nov ember 17th at the Mary Musgrove Hotel in Clinton. The meeting will begin at 7:30 and all Alumni, their wives and friends are invited. A Dutch dinner is planned. Don Welch, new Dean of Students at Wofford will be speaker for the meeting. The Community Concert As sociation opened its 1969-70 sea son with a lovely drop-in at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Cornelson. The party was especially in honor of Miss Vanni the singer and her accompanist, Mr. Cum mings who opened the season Sat urday night at Belk auditorium. Invited guests who attended the party were patrons, board mem bers, and officers. They met Miss Vanni and Mr. Cummings in the dining room where refreshments were served. Legion Aux. Meets Tues. The American Legion Auxi liary, Unit 56, will meet with Mrs. Wyman Shealy, 103 E. Wal nut Street, Tuesday 7:30 p.m. The program will be presented by the National Security and the Membership Committee. Handsome arrangements of roses were on the table and in the living room. Mr. Charles Gaines is cur rently president of the Com munity Concert Association.
