CHS CLASS OF 1969 HOLDS 10TH ANNIVERSARY REUNION CHS Class Of '59 Holds 10th Reunion Forty-two members of the Clinton High School graduating class of 1959 attended their 10th anniversary reunion Oct. 24-25. They attended the Clinton-Lex ington football game together on Oct. 24 and on Oct. 25 had a drop-in and a banquet and dance at Lakeside Country Club. At the banquet, the Rev. Shan non Long gave the invocation and the welcome was given by Mrs. Shannon Long (Loraine Patter son) who was vice president of the class. The president, Horace Payne, had to be out of town on Reserve duty. Georgia Young and Jackie Cooper presented a program en titled “Devil’s Den.” The country club was decorat ed with a large goal post wrap ped in red and white with a large football carrying the “welcome” message. There also was an en larged graduation picture which class members autographed. The decoration theme featured the school red and white school colors with pictures of red de vils. This will hold the screw until you get it started. Hint: The greater width of the tape should be stuck to the screwdriver so that when it is pulled from the screw, the tape will be removed with it. Happenings | 1 BY RENE KNIGHTON •K The Honor Society of Bell Street High held its meeting on Oct. 22. The main purposes of this meeting were presented, to wel come new members and elect officers. New members of the society are Bernadette Crumlin, Walena Crumlin, Sandra Davis, Emma Burnside, Willie Joe Golden, Jan ice Pitts, Lloyd Gennerette, and Donny Davenport. Newly elected officers for next year: President, Henry Motes; vice president, Thomas Vance; secretary, Rene Knighton; as sistant secretary, Margaret Price; treasurer, Mary Watts; reporter, Lloyd Gennerette; Miss Honor Society, Yvonne Adams. Bell Street High celebrated vo cational guidance week on last week. An assembly was held in the school auditorium. Master of ceremonies was Lloyd Gen nerette. The prayer and scrip ture were given by Nettie Burn side. Hilda Simpson explained the meaning of Vocation. Gail Fergu son listed various types of vo cations. A series of three films were shown. The first was entitled “Vocation Decision”, an in troduction to vocation. The se cond, “The World of Work”, which entelled the search for truth and responsibility. JOHNSON Dr. Johnson Speaks Sunday At 1st Baptist Dr. L D. Johnson, chaplain professor of religion at Furman University, will be guest speaker Sunday morning at First Baptist Church in Clinton. Dr. Johnson will speak at the 11 a.m. service in the absence of the pastor, the Rev. J. H. Darr, who is conducting revival ser vices in Georgetown this week. A native of Walters, Okla., Dr. Johnson is a graduate of George Washington University. He re ceived his Masters and Doctorate degrees in theology from the Southern Baptist Theological Se minary. He was pastor of First Baptist Church of Danville, Va., for 17 years prior to becoming chairman of the Department of Religion at the University of Richmond, Va., in 1959. In 1962 he became pastor of the First Baptist Church in Greenville and in 1967 became chaplain and pro fessor of religion at Furman University. In 1964, Dr. Johnson won the George Washington Honor Medal for one ofhis newspaper columns, which are published weekly in three newspapers. He also is the author of “An Introduction to The Bible” which was published in April of this year.
