C. an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Ann Sparks, to Mr. Ronnie Lee Riddle of Clinton. Mr. Riddle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold L. Riddle, Spartan burg Highway, Clinton is a 1966 graduate of Cedar Springs School of Spartanburg. He is presently employed at Band and White Printing Co. of Spartanburg. Miss Scarboro is a 1969 grad uate of Morganton High School and is presently employed at Na tion Wide Insurance Co. at Raleigh, N. C. The wedding will take place on November 27 at Hephzibah Church, Wendell, N. C. "Craft Ideas" Program Subject The Yellow Jessamine Garden Club met Monday, Oct 20 at the home of Mrs. W. G. King Sr., on the Greenwood Highway with Mrs. W. C. Shealy co-hostess. After the business meeting Mrs. Nelson Dow, president in troduced Mrs. Marion Lawson who presented a program on “Craft Ideas*. Opening questions of “What prompts starting a hob by?* and “Who can accomplish finished work?*, brought an In teresting program highlighted with finished products of needle point, shoe covering, embroidery with thread and paint, crochet and knitted work passed among those present to enjoy. It was learned that Mrs. Lawson had ac complished these in her spare time. Among the hobbles diflay ed Mrs. Don Creighton brought her newest hobby*“decoupage* and Mrs. Nelson Dow showed her 1970 felt sequin calendar and decorated ice bucket. Welcomed as a new member was Mrs. Sam Pringle a recent newcomer to Clinton. Following the program deli cious refreshments were served by the hostesses. * * * B&PW Week Celebrated Celebrating National B&PW week in the United States and through out its possessions, Oct. 19-25, are 178,491 members pay ing tribute to 29 million women working in the United States. Also being celebrated this year is the 50th anniversary of the foundation’s beginning. Of the 47 clubs in South Caro lina are two in Laurens County, one in Clinton and one in Lau rens. Federation objectives are: To elevate the standards for women in business and the pro fessions. BAKER’S BIRTHDAY Dr. Kenneth Baker’s birthday was Oct. 8 and his relatives came from far and near to help him blow out the candles. There’s no better excuse for a family reunion than a birthday. The Baker’s daughter, Mrs. George Miller and Dr. Miller came from Augusta, and their Lindell Mr. and Mrs. Carl William Lindell of 3824 Bettes Circle, Jacksonville, Fla., announce the engagement of their daughter, Laura Anne, to Joseph Miller Gettys, Jr., son of Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Miller Gettys Sr. of 300 Hickory St., Clinton. Miss Lindell was graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville and attended Con verse College in Spartanburg and Florida State University in Talla hassee from which she was grad uated in 1968. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She is presently teaching In the ele mentary school system of De Kalb County, Ga. son, Dr. Kenneth Baker,Jr. from Walton Beach, Fla. also came for the occasion. Other members of the clan drove over from New berry and Greenwood to enjoy the birthday dinner at the Wilson home. After hearing a toast read by Dr. Kenneth Jr., the family sat at one large table which was centered with a silver espergne filled with a mass of pink roses. * + + Gettys Mr. Gettys was graduated from Clinton High School, attended Southwestern at Memphis and was graduated from Presbyterian College in 1967. He was a mem ber of Blue Key honorary lead ership fraternity and Kappa Al pha Order. He is now a junior at Emory University Medical School in Decatur, Ga.
