Barks dale, Counselor, Bell Street High, who is serving as District Chairman. — (Yarlx>rough Studio) Luther League To Visit Columbia The members of the Luther League of St. John’s Lutheran Church, with their advisors, will be in Columbia Sunday afternoon, Oct. 19, gaining a new perspec tive on the Lutheran Church and the Roman Catholic Church in re gard to the Reformation and its place today. Touring points of interest, the Leaguers will visit the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary to see the theological center for their church. Ebenezer Lutheran Church, called the “Mother of Columbia Lutheranism”, will be another point from which the group will attempt to gain a deeper “feel” for their church. After supper in Columbia, the group has been invited to visit St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church on Assembly Street for the weekly 7 p.m. Mass with con temporary music. A tour of the church and conversation with the staff will cnclude the trip. The group, headed by the pre sident, Miss Debra Farmer, has planned this experience to make the observance of Reformation Sunday for Luthrans, Oet. 26, a meaningful service. Other in terested y >ung people«if the com munity are invited to make this trip with the League. + * * Looking Back Vocational Week Theme: 'Reach For Your Star' “Reach For Your Star Through Vocational Guidance” is the theme for the fourth National Vo cational Guidance Week to tie ob served in Clinton and throughout the country Oct. 19-25. The theme applies equally to the young person choosing his first job and the older person who is faced with the necessity of changing jobs. It applies to the privileged citizen as well as to the disadvantaged. “Reach for your star” implies that a sound career choice contains an in spiring quality which motivates one to his best efforts. During National Vocational Guidance Week, everyone is urged to find out about the vo cational guidance services in his community. Counselors are lo cated in schools, colleges, em ployment offices, and industries. * * * Nickel Replaces Silver Sixteen denominations of pure- nickel and nickel-alloy coins were introduced by seven countries in 1968 to replace silver coins. The first fall meeting of the Clinton Music club was held Wed nesday afternoon of the past week at the home of Mrs. Harry Mc- Sween. Assistant hostesses were Mrs. B.B. Ballard, Mrs. Cald well Henderson, Mrs. Jasper Rowland and Mrs. R.S. Truluck. Sterling Adair Pitts, Jr. is observing a birthday today. Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Ivester and children spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Alv» Ltibanks at Cal houn Falls. The market on grid victories in Clinton practically went bus ted this week when the forward marching Presbyterian Blue Hose ripped through Erskine’s Flying Fleet, the Clinton High Red Devils defeated a here to fore undefeated Belton team and the Thornwell Golden Gophers ran roughshod over a weaker Connie Maxwell team. PJ.s Perform At YMCA Dance The P.J.s of Laurens will lie featured at a dance Saturday night at the Clinton YMC \. The dance is scheduled from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. and is to tie chaperoned by parents and YMCA staff memliers. The program is sponsored by the "Youth for Christ” organi zation which will use proceeds to finance a retreat. Tickets are $1 per person or $1.50 per couple. The P.J.s recently won the “Battle of The Bands” compe tition sponsored by the Clinton Jaycees. Miss Widemon At Anderson A student from the Clinton area is among the 913 students enrolled at Anderson College for the fall session. She is Wilma Ann Widenan. The enrollment at the Baptist Junior College is 913 for day and evening classes. This year’s en rollment has broken all previous enrollment records. Students come from 108 South Carolina cities, 13 states and one foreign country. ♦ 4- * Song Program At Bethel Temple A song service will lie held Saturday night at Bethel Temple Assembly of God.
