Korea Being both a humanitarian and a soldier might seem a bit un usual, but 1st Lt. Fred Holcombe, native of Clinton, somehow finds time to be both. Stationed at the 1st Base Post Office at In chon, Korea, Lt Holcombe takes time off from his duties to help a good cause. He, along with the men and officers of his com pany, contribute financial support and a good deal of hard work in helping one-hundred Kf*ean orphans. The Bolame Orphanage, lo cated at Incon, is sponsored by the 1st Base Post Office. With out the orphanage approximately 54 girls and 48 boys between the ages of one and 15 would find life a rather cruel affair. Re cently, wit h the efforts of the men of the company, a new three story dormitory was built to house the children. The dorm itory also contains a chapel, kit chen and dining room facilities. Throughout the year the unit has organized many worthwhile pro- 7>v.v/.v.v.v.v.v.v.v.v.v.v.v.\\v.\v. jects, such as a picnic to Song- Do Beach in July, a trip to the Seoul Zoo in August, and a Christ mas party last December. At the Christmas party many of the children were introduced to an American style Santa Claus for the first time, and while the tra dition of Christmas was perhaps strange to the children, the spi rit of kindness and giving was there. There can be no doubt that the children of the orphanage appreciate what is being done for them. As for the men of the company, they realize the impor tance of their support. As one soldier put it, “These kids lead a hard life, and it makes a guy feel good to give them a hand”, ^puld anyone wish to give the cnildren*6upport, any contribu tion (clothing, food, or financial assistance in the form of check or money order) will be great ly appreciated. Forward in care of: Custodian of Bolame Orphan age Fund, 1st Base Post Office, APO San Francisco 96571. INTERESTING FACTS By Tom Plaxico Can you imagine looking up and seeing—not one—but 12 different moons in the sky. One planet in our solar system does indeed have 12 moons. The planet with 12 moons going around it is Jupiter. And 4 other planets have more than one moon. Saturn has 9 moons, Uranus has 5 and Nep tune and Mars each have 2 moons. On the other hand, 3 planets—Mercury, Ve nus and Pluto—have no moons at all. And, here’s another interesting fact . . . Sales on our 1970 models have started out like a moon shot.
