Stanford, Decatur, Ga. The ROTC unit at PC is one of the oldest in the UnitedStates, having been established in 1919, shortly after the ROTC act was passed by Congress. Jaycees Plan Membership Rally The Clinton Jaycees will spon sor a membership rally Monday, Sept. 15, at the Jaycee Hut on Shands St. Featured speakers will be Dan Winchester of Liberty, South Carolina, Jaycee vice president, and J. 0. Alexander of Mauldin, regional vice president. All prospective Jaycee mem bers, between the ages of 21 and 36, are invited. Friendly The Pawnee Indians never fought against the United States. Many Pawnees, in fact, acted as scouts for the country in its battles with other Indians. Todd S.C. State Bar Walter Blakely Todd, Jr. of Columbia, S. C. was among 108 new lawyers who successfully passed the S. C. Bar and were sworn in,on Wednesday, Sept. 10 during a special session of the S. C. Supreme Court Mr. Todd is a 1966 graduate of Presbyterian College and a 1969 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law. He is married to the former June Rodgers of Greenwood. Mr. Todd will enter the Army Oct. 6. Mrs. Todd and their daughter, Sloan will accompany him to Charlottesville, Va. where he will attend the U.S. Army Judge Advocate Generals’School. Mr. Todd is the son of Col. and Mrs. Walter B. Todd of Co lumbia. Col. Todd is formerly of Clinton. Revival Set At Hopewell A revival will be held at the Hopewell United Methodist Church beginning Sunday Sept. 14 and continuing through Sept. 17. The Rev. C. M. Smith of Co lumbia will preach nightly at 7:30 o’clock. James W. Mc Allister is the church pastor. A nursery will be provided. Fire Extinguished Clinton Firemen extinguished a blaze about noon Monday when a gasoline pump caught on fire at a service station. A native of Clinton, Mr. Hol land is immediate past chairman of the Merchants Division of the Chamber of Commerce. He is a past president of the Food Re tailers Association of South Carolina and serves on the board of directors ofthe Clinton YMCA. He is a member of Broad Street Methodist Church and is a mem ber of the board of directors in the Clinton Rotary Club. He al so is a member of the Laurens County Shrine Club and is a vet eran of the Korea War. Mr. Holland is married to the former Trotti Pruitt and they have three children. The Hollands reside in Woodland Acres. Authority Warns Against Pollution A spokesman for the Pollution Control Authority said today that recent amendments to the State Law will be rigidly enforced. The amendments make it unlawful to contravene standards adopted by the Authority, or to operate an approved waste treatment facility which fails to provide the degree of treatment specified in the Ap plication for a Permit to Con struct and Discharge, or for vio lating any final determination or order of the Authority. The a- mendments also make it unlawful to damage or destroy animal or vegetable life indigenous to or dependent upon a given stream. Penalties for violations range from $500 to $5,000 and/or im prisonment for not more than two years. Each day’s violation con stitutes a separate offense. In addition, penalties equal to the value of the damage caused may be assessed when fish, shellfish, aquatic animals, wildlife or plant life are destroyed. The spokesman said that all contravention of stream stand ards, including accidental spills of harmful materials, will be thoroughly investigated and the guilty party or parties prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The Eddystone Light, fore runner of the modern light house, still stands in the har bor outside Plymouth. Eng land. It was built in 1757 by John Smeaton, a British en gineer. Two wooden structures preceded the present stone lighthouse. The first was de stroyed by a storm. The sec ond, begun by John Rudyerd in 1706 and completed in 1709, was later destroyed by fire. onto unfenced train tracks were a constant problem for early American railroads.
