> * I. B. Robinson J. B. Red Robinson, 62, ofRt. 1, Clinton, Longbranch community, died Sunday. He was a lifelong resident of Laurens County, son of the late William C. and Ethel Craine Robinson. He was a retired farmer and a member of Bell- view Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Effie Henderson Robinson; a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Edna) Marler of Laurens; two sons, James Edward and William Earle Robinson of Laurens; four sis ters, Mrs. I. V. Jones of Ports mouth, Ohio, Mrs. R. E, Elmore and Mrs. Harley Barnes of Clin ton and Miss Geneva Robinson of Greenville; twd brothers, W. W. Robinson of Laurens; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were con ducted Monday at Bellview Bap tist Church by the Rev. J. B. Abercrombie. Burial was in the church cemetery. Gray Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. * * * Mrs. Powell Mrs. Lala Pearl Haggins Po well, 80, of 402 Tindal Road, Greenville, died last Thursday. She was the mother of Hubert Powell of Clinton. Other survivors include four daughters, four other sons, a brother, a sister, 13 grand children and 25 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were conduc ted Saturday at Washington Ave nue Baptist Church with burial in Wood Memorial Park near Dun can. * * * Mrs. Lollis HONEA PATH - Mrs. Pearl Martin Lollis, 65, of 216 Main St., Honea Path, died Sunday. A native of Laurens County, rr she o^i^st Mar tin of Clinton. Other survivors in clude two sons, a daughter, two other brothers, two sisters, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were con ducted Tuesday at First Baptist Church with burial in East View Cemetery. * * * Foster Infant Barry Michael Foster, infant son of George Michael andSandra Mills Foster of Chj^pe 11s High way, died Wednesday. The parents are members of the Davidson Street Baptist Church. Surviving also are grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey L. Foster and Mrs. Jesse Patterson of Clinton; great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L.B. Trammell and Mrs. S.C. Foster of Clinton. Graveside services were con ducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in Rosemont Cemetery by the Rev. Floyd M. Hellams. Gray Funeral Home was in charge. * * * J. C. Moon, Ir. Funeral services for Joe C. Moon Jr., 12, son of Joe C. and Dorothy Mae Moon Sr. were con ducted Thursday at Zion Hill Ho liness Church by the Rev. Peter Moon. Surviving also are two sisters, Miss Borthory G. Moon and Miss Shirley D. Moon of the home; th ree brothers, Joseph L., Daniel and Waylan B. Moon of the home; grandparents, Mack and Lula Moon; and a great grandmother, Mrs. Arley Moore. Hubbard Graveside services were con ducted Thursday, Aug. 21, for Robert Calvin Hubbard Sr., 82, who died Aug. 20 in a Clinton hospitaJ. Mr. Hubbard, a dairy farmer in the Seneca area for over 50 years, was the father of Mrs. Vivian H. Fulmer of Clinton. He was a membet'of the Seneca First Baptist Chur cm Other survivors include his wife, a son, three brothers, two sisters and six grandchildren. Brown’s Funeral Home in Seneca was in charge of arrange ments. * * * Mrs. Todd Mrs. Mayme L. Todd, 86, of S. Woodrow St, widow of Mor gan Todd, died Monday. She was a native of Clinton, daughter ofthe late James Hamil ton and Emma Finney Little and had lived in Simpsonville for 25 years until returning to Clinton in 1951. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Surviving are four step-daugh ters, Mrs. Leta Dupree, Mrs. C. 0. Milford and Mrs. Zenas Grier of Greenville and Miss Esther Todd of Simpsonville. Her first marriage was to the late Dr. James R. Copeland. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family. Three surviving neices are Mrs. John Roseboro, Clinton; Mrs. Everett Carson, Gastonia, N. C. and Mrs. W. C. Dupre, Abbeville. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Gray Funeral Home with burial in the Presbyterian Church cemetery. * * * O. P. Harvey NEWBERRY -Oscar Paul Har vey, 65, of Route 1, Newberry, died Tuesday. He was the step father of Donald Arrington of Clinton. Other survivors include his wife, two sons, another stepson, a daughter, two brothers, 14 grandchildren, and a great grandchild. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Whitaker Funeral Home. * * * South Carolina statistics for 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1969 show that one’s chances of surviving an automobile highway collision while using a safety belt is at least double that for a driver or passenger not wearing one. This is Family Seat Belt Month. Miss Blakely Wins Fellowship Miss Florence E. Blakely, head of the reference department at Duke University’s Perkin Li brary, has received a pro fessional study fellowship under a new program of the Council on Library Resources. She is the daughter of Mrs. Ralph R. Blakely of Durham, N. C., and the late Mr. Blakely, former residents of Clinton. The award covers three months’ research during 1970. She will gather data on the staf fing and general quantity and quality of refer^pce service in a group of large academic libra ries across the nation. A native of Clinton, Miss Blakely has been at Duke since 1948. She has headed the refer ence department since 1956. She is a graduate of Presbyterian College and later earned bache lor of science and master of arts degrees in library science at George Peabody College in Nash ville. Tenn. Before joining the Duke staff, she held reference and branch li brarian’s posts in Greenville Public Library. In the summer of 1962, she was a visiting lec turer in library science at UNC- Chapel Hill. She is the author of several articles in library journals. * * * Roberts Named To Liaison Group At Clemson D. H. Roberts of Clinton has been named to a 27-member Clemson University Liaison Committee of the S. C. Textile Manufacturers’ Association. Roberts is vice president, manufacturing, with Clinton Mills. He and W. T. Taylor, per sonnel manager of United Mer chants and Manufacturers Union plant, will represent Laurens and Union counties on the committee which will act as liaison between Clemson and the textile industry during the 1969-70 academic year. A major project of the group has been recruitment of superior junior and senior high school stu dents for participation in Clem- son’s “Science in Textiles" pro grams. Members contact high school officials in their area and arrange for students who are in terested in textiles to attend the program.
