THE CHRONICLE, Clinton, S. C., July 17, 1969—5-C Dear Sally BY SALLY SHAW DEAR SALLY: I am a young man of 23, engaged to be mar ried, but now very much on the uncertain side as to the solidity of my relationship with my fiancee. I keep hearing all sorts of stories from friends who claim to have seen her out with other fellows on the nights I am not with her, and I have caught her in any number of little lies about other things, too. As a result, my faith in her is tottering badly, and I’m wondering just what to do. ON EDGE. DEAR ON EDGE: You seem very sure about the lies she has told you. If you’re just as sure about the things your friends have told you, you’d better accept the painful fact that this girl can not be trusted, and that it’s much better to break things off now than to regret it for years after you’re married. Mutual trust and confi dence are extremely important ingredients of any successful and happy marriage. DEAR SALLY: I’ve been having an argument with another girl about whether or not you should tell a strange woman you see that her slip is showing or that she has a run in her stocking. I always do, but my friend says it’s none of my business. SHARON. DEAR SHARON: A woman who looks friendly and relaxed may welcome your calling her at- Mountville News BY MRS. L. R. Winnebriner. tention to such a thing if you can do it privately and casually so as not to embarrass her before others. The tactful time to tell a woman such a thing is when she’s some place where she can do something about it, such as a dressing room where she is re pairing her makeup and is ob viously unaware that her cos tume needs attention, too. DEAR SALLY: I’m a girl of 22 who makes a very good salary, more than many of the fellows I date. I like going to the theater, but get tired of going 'Dutch" with girl friends. Would it be all right if I were to buy tickets and ask a young man to go with me? SULLY. DEAR SULLY: Yes, but not too often with the same man. And, of course, he is responsible for your transportation and for any extra curricular entertaining before or after the theater that he feels able to manage. Give him the tickets when he picks you up and avoid in every way giving the im pression that you are in charge of the evening. DEAR SALLY: Ever since we moved into our new home, we seem to have become the most popular people in town. . .be cause of our beautiful family room with its pool table, shuffle- board layout, dart game, and lovely bar. People are dropping in uninvited evening after evening for fun and games in our re creation room, and this is not only getting more and more an noying, it’s quite expensive too, considering the drinks and snacks we must dole out. Don’t get us wrong. . .we like friends, and we enjoy having them visit us. .. when we INVITE them. Is there any tactful way we can cope with this situation? SUBURBAN. DEAR SUB UR GAN: Begin meeting these uninvited guests at the door with, “I’m terribly sor ry, but we already have plans for this evening." And if you are compelled to do this a number of times with the same persons, maybe the point will get through.
