f UTILITY LEGISLATION SIGNED— Gov. Robert McNair signs a bill which makes malicious injury to public utility systems unlawful. The bill, introduced at the request of the State Law Enforcement Division, other law enforcement agencies and electric utilities, implies a maximum sentence up to 10 years for such ma licious damage. Mrs. Pauline Wade passed away at Bailey Memorial Hos pital early Monday morning after a long illness. Mrs. Wade cele brated her 89th birthday last week. Mrs. E. P. Bnazmari and Mrs. R. B. Segars visited Mrs. Henry Ellenberg at the home of her son near Ninety Six on Sunday. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Hayes of Blakedale. Mrs. D. C. Laurens Road Improvement Project Awarded Award of a $233,251 contract for street widening in Laurens has been announced by the State Highway Department. Ashmore Brothers, Inc. of Greenville was awarded the con tract on the basis of the firm’s low bid, according to ChiefHigh- way Commissioner Silas N. Pearman. Four bids were en tered ranging as high as $294,- 577. » The contract calls for grading, drainage, asphaltic concrete sur facing and construction of con crete curb, gutter and sidewalk for widening and improvements of one mile on U.S. Routes 221 and 76 By-Pass in Laurens.
