Livingston left Greenville - Spartanburg Airport on Saturday enroute to Chicago, 111., to visit Eugene Sanders. Mrs. Daisy Hearst enplaned from Greenville - Spartanburg Airport to spend a week vaca tion with her relatives in Buffa lo, N.Y. DAILY VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL A week devoted to Bible study, creativity in art, recreation and socializing has been completed at Mount Moriah Baptist Church. Classes were held each evening from 6 to 8 p.m. The faculty consisted of Mrs. Irene Price, Mrs. EthelS. Lindsay, Miss Mary Ann Sanders, Miss Barbara A- dams and Rev. A. Jones. The to tal enrollment of the school was 60 with an average daily attend ance of 47. Many prizes that were given by members, patrons and merchants were distributed on Friday. Mrs. ATTENDANCE RECORD — Spencer Kinard, a picker tender in Joanna Plant No. 14 of Greenwood Mills, has been cited for having a nearly perfect attendance record at work during 25 years of con tinuous service with the Joanna Plants. Here, his departmental superintendent, David Parr, presents him a 25-year service pin and offers his con gratulations on the attendance record. Kinard missed only five days from work during the 25 years, three of them due to a death in his family and two others when no work was available in his de partment. Minnie Young is superintendent and Mrs. Aurelia D. Moon was director. BOY SCOUT TROOP LEAVES Boy Scout Troop No. 178 left on Sunday for a weeks stay at Camp Stanley Harris in Mariet ta, S. C. During the time they are away they will participate in all activities that makes an all- around scout. Mr. Clyde Lindsay Jr. scout master accompanied the troop. ATTENDS FUNERAL Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Gilliam, and Mrs. Alfreda Gilliam Boden- hamer attended funeral services for Mr. Earl Davis at New Zion Baptist Church in Greenville, S. C. on Sunday. Mr. Davis was the uncle of Mr. Gilliam. Mrs. Alfreda C. Bodenham- | er has returned home after at tending a three week library workshop at South Carolina State College, Orangeburg, S. C. 100 WOMEN IN WHITE A 100 Women in White pro gram was held at Bethel Bap tist Church, Cross Hill, S. C. on Sunday, June 29 at 5:30 p.m. The guest speaker for the occa sion was Mrs. A. Dillard Moon. Mrs. Lillie Bluford was spon sor and served as mistress of ceremonies. Rev. W. E. Byrd is pastor of the church. An appreciative group of la dies dressed in white participat ed on the program in various ways. INSTALLATION SERVICE LITTLE RIVER ZION BAPTIST CHURCH Installation service for Rev. James Gray was held Sunday, June 29. Words of welcome were given by Brother W. J. Rabb. Remarks were made on installing a pastor by Brother Junius Cun ningham and Miss Euna Pitts. Rev. A. L. Brackett gave the first sermon using for a subject “A Day Without Jesus". Abandoned Refrigerators Are Dangerous The State Board of Health has reminded South Carolina resi dents of dangers associated with unused or abandoned refrigera tors and freezers. Last year there were two en trapment deaths in the Palmetto State. One victim, a five-year old, was found in a locked re frigerator. A two-year old young ster died after being trapped in a freezer. “To a child, abandoned units become hiding places, play houses, or ‘jails’. Two deaths aren’t many, but they need not occur ifpersons follow a few sim ple precautions," said Earl W. Mitchell, chief of Emergency Health Services. Before storing or discarding refrigerators and freezers, seal them shut, block them open, or remove the doors. “The best precaution is to remove the doors," Mitchell said. Parks Pass Attendance Mark South Carolina’s state park at tendance has already passed the previous high of 3,482,529 set during the 1967-68 fiscal year and a record-smashing total - far in excess of 4,000,000- is anticipat ed for the 1968-69 year. In June of last year 712,041 persons visited the state parks. When final figures are in for this June, it is anticipated that more than 4,400,000 persons will have visited the state parks during the current fiscal year. Two years ago park attendance was 2,693,675. “We expected the biggest year ever, and we are getting it," Donald M. McSween, parks direc tor of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, said. “As the full effects of the parks bond issue is felt, more and more South Carolinians and out-of staters will be using our excellent facilities. “Too few people in the past have taken advantage of the swimming, boating, hiking, pic nicking, cabins and the other recreational opportunities at our parks. Word is getting around, and our park improvement pro grams are being noticed by the public." * * * Bowling is said to have originated in Egypt some 7,000 years ago, and to this day mummy goes bowling every Monday night. Promptly at 3 p.m. a message was presented by Rev. McMahand using for a subject “GoStraight", Joshua, 1:7. The final message was brought by the vice-moderator, Rev. W. D. Coker. His message was taken from the book of Ezekiel, 22:30, “A Man Standing in the Gap". The speakers told Rev. Gray “how to stay with Jesus, how to stay straight, lead straight, and bridge the gap, so that he maybe a successful leader." The visitors were many, com ing from the following churches: Zion Hill, New Bethel, Hebron, Mt Moriahm Bethlehem, Grove and Beaverdam and also from Georgia.
